Infusor / Intermate Patient Guide

How should Baxter Infusor/ Intermate be stored? An Infusor/Intermate is a disposable device that is pre-filled with solution that your Doctor has prescribed. You may be instructed to keep your Infusor either at room temperature or in the refrigerator. To store your Infusor/Intermate in the refrigerator Clean the inside of the refrigerator before putting the Infusor/Intermate inside Make sure the Infusor/Intermate is placed in the refrigerator in its overpouch. Keep separate from food To store your Infusor/Intermate at room temperature choose a cool, dry place that is also clean away from direct sunlight away from heat sources such as an oven or heater out of the reach of children where the Infusor/Intermate won t get damaged Important points to note: Don t expose the Infusor/Intermate to extremes of temperature. It is preferable that the Infusor/Intermate does not get wet. When showering place in a plastic bag to decrease chance of Infusor/Intermate getting wet. Keep out of reach of children. While wearing the Infusor/Intermate please store in cover provided by your hospital. Storage Requirements

Getting Ready to Use Your Baxter Infusor / Intermate Infusor should be removed from the refrigerator directly before use unless otherwise instructed. Intermates should be removed from the refrigerator 4-6 hours before use unless otherwise instructed. If self caring: 1. Clean a flat surface with soap and water, then dry it. 2. Check the name of the medication on the label. 3. Check the expiry date on the label. 4. Check that your name is correct on the label. 5. Wash your hands with warm water and soap. Dry thoroughly. 6. If your home care advisor suggests you wear gloves, put them on after you have washed and dried your hands. 7. Refer to patient guide or instructions from your Health Care Provider for correct technique to attach Infusor/Intermate to your line. 8. Dispose of the used/completed Infusor/ Intermate by placing in the overpouch and into your medical waste or as instructed by your Health Care Provider. How To Use

What to do if the Infusor/Intermate leaks If the medication does not infuse. 1. If provided close the clamp on your catheter. 2. Immediately notify your Health Care Provider. 3. If your medication comes into contact with your skin, immediately wash the area with warm soapy water. 4. If your Infusor/Intermate leaks, please contact your Health Care Provider and keep the device for your home care worker to return to Baxter. 1. Remember your Infusor flows very slowly, so make sure you have waited long enough. 2. Check that your I.V. line is unclamped, and there are no kinks in the line. 3. Check the Infusor about every 6-8 hours during the day to make sure it is working. The balloon will get smaller. 4. If the medication is not flowing, please contact your Health Care Provider. 5. Save the Infusor/Intermate and return to your Health Care Provider. Check Flow Rate

Checking the progress of your Infusor The Infusor Volume indicator when Infusor is full You will know when your Infusor/Intermate is empty as the balloon will be touching all eight empty indicator bumps on two sides of the Infusor or Intermate. The Infusor or Intermate works slowly so the balloon will appear to be shrinking over several hours or days. The diagram below shows you approximately how the balloon will deflate over time. Volume indicator when Infusor is empty Full 1/4 Delivered 1/2 Delivered 3/4 Delivered Empty Check Progress The balloon will be deflated when empty Volume Indicator Buttons
