1. THE WELCOME (Pre-service until class begins) Jesus heals you. SAY> (As each child enters classroom) Hello. I m glad you are here! Come open the Treasure Chest to find today s treasure. (Child unlocks Treasure Chest to receive a stamp or sticker of a smiling face.) Let this sticker help you remember that Jesus heals you. To heal means to get well. Jesus is the one who makes you well. Today s Whisper Verse is, Jesus heals you. (Teach Whisper Verse in spoken language and in sign language below.) We call it the Whisper Verse so you can whisper it to others.* SIGN LANGUAGE: Jesus heals you. (For visual demonstrations, see commtechlab.msu.edu/sites/aslweb/browser.htm) Each time we say today s Whisper Verse, let s say it with three hand motions: Jesus The middle finger of one hand touches the middle of the palm of the other hand, then the same is repeated using the middle finger of the other hand. This action indicates the wounds in Jesus hands after He was nailed to the cross. heals The hands move from the body outward and close with a gesture of firmness (fists) to represent that the body is strong. you. The index finger of the right hand points forward as the arm moves forward from body at waist level. SAY> (After all have arrived) Let s sing the Clean Up Song as we put toys away before Praise Time. (Praise any child who helps. Allow several minutes for clean up.) Clean Up Song : Clean up! Clean up! Everybody, everywhere! Clean up! Clean up! Everybody do your share! (Gather and seat children in Praise Time area.) *Today s Whisper Verse: Jesus heals you from Acts 9:34. The Whisper Verse is a tool to help the children learn a major point in the lesson. It is coupled with sign language or hand motions as a memory aid. The verse is not necessarily chosen from today s Bible story. God of Wonders: Lesson 6 ~ Page 2 of 9

2. THE WORSHIP: Praise Time! (15 minutes) Worship Jesus as the God of Healing *Teacher Tip: Play It s Praise Time! as children move to the place for praise songs, offering and puppet sketch. These activities help children identify time set aside for worship. Below are song suggestions to direct focus during Praise Time. SAY> It s Praise Time our time to sing praise to Jesus as the God of healing. He is called our healer because Jesus heals us. That reminds me of today s Whisper Verse, Jesus heals you. Let s try it together. (Review Whisper Verse together: Jesus heals you. Include sign language.) SAY> In today s story, Jesus heals an officer s servant. Jesus can heal us, too. In our new Bible Memory Verse Song, we can praise Jesus and ask Him to heal us. Let s learn our new Bible Memory Verse Song together. (Sing: Heal Me, O Lord. ) SAY> Jesus healed the officer s servant without even seeing him. The servant was healed the very moment Jesus said, It will be done. The officer knew Jesus was in charge of everything, including healing. If Jesus says we will be healed, then we will be healed. Let s thank Him for being our healer as we give our offerings to His church. (Sing: Give Thanks To The Lord while collecting the offering.) SAY> Let s see if Delbert and Lello know about the officer and his servant. (Read Chapter 6 from The Adventures of Delbert and Lello: God of Wonders or interact with puppets according to God of Wonders Lesson 6, Unit 2 Delbert & Lello puppet script.) How God loves you and me. (Hug self, point to others and then self.) SAY> Last time we learned about how Jesus fed the big crowd with only five small loaves of bread and two small fish. Today we ll learn about the miracle when Jesus used His words to heal the officer s servant. (Handle Bible as a special treasure, leaving it open to Matthew 8:8.) WATCH THE WORD: MATTHEW 8:5-10, 13 Read poem below or retell passage in your own words using points of poem as a general guide. To illustrate the story, display the craft sample: The Officer s Servant Puppet. Other visual options include Color This Story, picture or story cards. An officer asked Jesus for help, My servant can t get out of bed. He is so sick that he cannot move. I ll go heal him, Jesus said. He will be healed, The officer said.
