What exactly is a Habitat? An animal s habitat is the place where the animal lives in the wild. It provides animals with two important things, shelter and food. It is a great place for animals to have their babies because everything they need is there for them. There are many different habitats. While at Knowsley Safari, you might have talked about, the Savannah Grasslands, the Rainforests and the Deserts. Can you colour in these types of habitats on our map of the world? Use the key below to colour in where in the world you might find these habitats. Red Savannah Grasslands Green Rainforests Yellow Deserts Blue Polar

Wordsearch There are nine hidden words in the Wordsearch below. They are all related to habitats, and what is important about them. Can you find them all? P H S X B U D A P N N L S W E A T H E R P H H A A C L T O I R A E K W A T E R N E B L D S Z A U P O Y I T C E F F O O D L T E E C N E W I A P A R H D E S E R T G T S A V A N N A H J P R E D A T O R S Can you unscramble the following three words to find the names of the habitats you will be learning about in this worksheet? OIRASTNFER LGNRSANDASS TDSREE Animals can only live in particular places, but their bodies are built in a certain way, that make them perfect for their surroundings. These are called ADAPTATIONS. Adaptations are parts of an animal, that allows the species to become better suited to its environment. An example of an adaptation would be humps on a camels back. The camel wouldn't survive in the desert without these humps due to the lack of food there, it would go hungry very quickly and die. Now it has these humps, they can go for a long time without food or water.

Below are three of our animals but they have lost their habitat! Fill inside the boxes with the kind of habitat that best suits them. Draw a circle around the animals below, that come from the Rainforest! Animals that live in the Rainforest are really well designed to make sure they are adapted to survive in these hot and wet conditions. On the picture of our frog below, can you label these parts of his body that make him good at living in the Rainforest? There are good reasons why certain animals live in particular habitats. Fill in the sentences below to show why some animals cannot live in the wrong habitats. 1. Polar bears can t live in Grasslands because it is too D. 2. Frogs can t live in desert because there is not enough W to keep them wet. 3. A Lion wouldn't survive in the Rainforest because there would be too much R and they like it dry. 4. A snail would hate to live in the Desert because there would not be enough P to eat. 5. The Polar regions would be the worst place for a stick insect to live because they would have nowhere to H from predators. Summary Well done for reaching the end of our Habitats Worksheet! To summarise what you have learnt, fill in the last remaining gaps below! A R is somewhere where it R everyday and there are lots of T trees. They are found near the E. The G is somewhere very hot and dry and there is hardly ever any rain. They are mostly found in A. There is lots of S in the D, which makes it perfect for animals like C. The worlds biggest Desert is called the S.
