Complete Bell polyomials ad ew geeralized idetities for polyomials of higher order arxiv:0911.3069v1 math.nt] 16 Nov 2009 Boris Rubistei, Stowers Istitute for Medical Research 1000 50th St., Kasas City, MO 64110, U.S.A. November 16, 2009 Abstract The relatios betwee the Beroulli ad Euleria polyomials of higher order ad the complete Bell polyomials are foud that lead to ew idetities for the Beroulli ad Euleria polyomials ad umbers of higher order. Geeral form of these idetities is cosidered ad geeratig fuctio for polyomials satisfyig this geeral idetity is foud. 1 Itroductio The history of the Beroulli polyomials B (s) couts more tha 250 years, as L. Euler first studied them for arbitrary values of the argumet. He itroduced the Euler polyomials E (s), the geeralizatio of these polyomials to the so-called Euleria polyomials H (s,ρ) was made by Frobeius 5]. The Bell polyomials 4] also appeared to be useful i combiatorial applicatios. I 1920s N. Nörlud 7] itroduced the Beroulli B (m) (s d) ad Euler polyomials E (m) (s d) of higher order addig parameters d = {d i }, 1 i m. Similar extesio for the Euleria polyomials (s,ρ d) was made by L. Carlitz i 3]. The Beroulli ad Euleria polyomials of higher order appear to be useful for the descriptio of the restricted partitio fuctio defied as a umber of iteger oegative solutios to Diophatie equatio d x = s (see 9]). The author showed i 10] that the restricted partitio fuctio ca be expressed through the Beroulli polyomials of higher order oly. It appears that there exist relatios that coect the Beroulli, Euler ad related polyomials ad their higher order geeralizatios to the complete Bell polyomials. These relatios preseted i Sectio 3 give rise to ew idetities for the polyomials of higher order, ad the idetity for the Euleria polyomials is discussed i Sectio 4. I Sectio 5 we itroduce a more geeral form of the abovemetioed idetities ad fid the geeratig fuctios for the polyomials satisfyig these relatios. The Sectio 6 is devoted to derivatio of ew relatios for the Beroulli polyomials of higher order. 1

The Apostol-Beroulli 1] ad Apostol-Euler 6] are the particular cases of the Euleria polyomials. Itroduce the geeralized Euleria polyomials through the geeratig fuctio It is easy to see that e st1 αρ e t ρ = =0 H (s,ρ,α) t!. (3) B (s) = H 1 (s,1,0), E (s) = H (s, 1,1), H (s,ρ) = H (s,ρ,1). Itroduce the geeralized Euleria polyomials of higher order H (m) (s,ρ,α d) as follows e st m 1 α i ρ i e d it ρ i = =0 H (m) (s,ρ,α d) t!. (4) The geeratig fuctio for the Beroulli polyomials of higher order B (m) (s d) reads 2]: m e st d i t e dit 1 = B (m) (s d)t!. (5) It ca be checed by compariso that =0 B (m) (s d) =!π 1 ( m)! H(m) m (s,1,0 d), π 1 = m d i. It is easy to see that the Euler E (m) (s d) 2] ad Euleria polyomials of higher order H (m) (s, ρ d) 3] ca be writte as E (m) (s d) = H(m) (s, 1,1 d), (6) (s,ρ d) = H (m) (s, ρ, 1 d). 1=1 2
3 Beroulli ad Euleria polyomials of higher order as Bell polyomials The complete Bell polyomials B (a 1,a 2,...) 8] are defied through the geeratig fuctio ( ) a i B i (a 1,a 2,...) exp i! ti = t i. I a particular case with ρ i = ρ i (4) usig the above expasio we have ( exp st σ ) ( ) 1t ρh i 1 (ρ)σ i t i exp = B i (s σ 1 + a 1,a 2,...) ti 1 ρ 1 ρ i! i!, (10) where a i = ρh i 1 (ρ)σ i /(1 ρ). Comparig (10) to (7) we obtai i=2 i=0 (s,ρ d) = B (s σ 1 + a 1,a 2,...). (11) The relatios (9,11) are the particular cases of a geeral idetity (s,ρ,α d) = B (s σ 1 + a 1,a 2,...) (12) with a i = ρh i 1 (ρ,α)σ i /(1 αρ) ad H i (ρ,α) = H i (0,ρ,α). Note that the value of the polyomial is equal to the complete Bell polyomial of the same order with parameters proportioal to the value of the correspodig polyomial at zero. 3
4 Geeralized Euleria polyomials idetities Cosider a ormalized distributio P(t) that ca be characterized by the sequece of momets µ or cumulats κ. The momets geeratio fuctio is P(t) itself ad cumulats geeratio fuctio is l P(t), i.e., P(t) = 1 + =1 µ! t, l P(t) = =1 κ! t. (13) It is worth to ote that i the theory of symmetric fuctios µ play role of the complete homogeeous symmetric polyomials, while κ stad for the symmetric power sums. The above defiitios imply the relatio betwee the momets ad cumulats 1 ( ) 1 µ = κ + κ µ. (21) We wat to fid the coditio o the geeratig fuctio G(s,r,t) for the polyomials P (s,r). Multiplyig the equatio (21) by t /! ad summig over we obtai P +1 (s,r) ( ) ] t t = Q 1 (s,r)p (s,r) + Q 2 (s,r) P (r,r)p (s,r)!!. =0 =0 The r.h.s. of the above equatio evaluates to Q 1 (s,r)g(s,r,t)+q 2 (s,r)g(r,r,t)g(s,r,t), while the l.h.s. is obtaied by differetiatio of G(s,r,t) w.r.t. t, so that G(s,r,t) Cosider a particular case of (22) i the form G(s,r,t) =0 = Q 1 (s,r)g(s,r,t) + Q 2 (s,r)g(r,r,t)g(s,r,t). (22) = Q 1 (s)g(s,r,t) + Q 2 (r)g(r,r,t)g(s,r,t). (23) The polyomials P (s,r) geerated by G(s,r,t) satisfy the idetity P +1 (s,r) = Q 1 (s)p (s,r) + Q 2 (r) F(r,t) =0 ( ) P (r,r)p (s,r). (24) We loo for solutio i the form G(s,r,t) = H(s,t)F(r,t) that leads to the equatio = Q 1 (s) l H(s,t) ] F(r,t) + Q 2 (r)h(r,t)f 2 (r,t). (25) The term i the square bracets i the last equatio should be idepedet of s, so that the followig coditio holds l H(s,t) Q 1 (s) = M (t) for some fuctio M(t) defied up to arbitrary costat. The coditio leads to relatio ad the equatio (25) reduces to the Beroulli equatio H(s,t) = e Q 1(s)t M(t), (26) which has the solutio The solutio of (23) reads F(r,t) = M (t)f(r,t) + Q 2 (r)e Q 1(r)t M(t) F 2 (r,t), (27) F(r,t) = Q 1 (r)e M(t) CQ 1 (r) Q 2 (r)e Q 1(r)t. where the itegratio costat C is determied from the coditio Fially we obtai G(s,r,0) = G 0 (s,r) = G(s,r,t) = Q 1 (r) CQ 1 (r) Q 2 (r). (30) G 0 (s,r)q 1 (r)e Q 1(s)t Q 1 (r) + G 0 (s,r)q 2 (r)(1 e Q 1(r)t ). (31) Settig i the last equatio r = 0, Q 1 (s) = s 1, Q 2 (0) = ρ/(1 αρ) ad G 0 (s,0) = (1 αρ)/(1 ρ) we obtai the geeratig fuctio i the l.h.s. of (3). It is ot difficult to geeralize the above geeratig fuctio to the case of polyomials of higher order. We defie the geeratig fuctio G(s,r,t,d) for the polyomials of higher order P (m) (s, r d) as follows G(s,r,t,d) = e Q 1(s) Q 1 (0)]t The polyomial idetity reads: P (m) +1 (s,r d) = (Q 1(s) Q 1 (0)(1 σ 1 ))P (m) (s,r d) + Q 2 (r) The case r = s leads to the geeral solutio G(s,t) = m e Q 1(0)d 1 t G 1 0 (s,r) + Q 2(r)(1 e Q 1(r)d i t )/Q 1 (r). (32) =0 ( ) P (r,r)σ +1 P (m) (s,r d). (33) G 0 (s)q 1 (s)e Q 1(s)t Q 1 (s) + G 0 (s)q 2 (s)(1 e Q 1(s)t ). (34) It should be oted that the solutios (31,34) are valid oly whe Q 1 (s) is idetically ozero. Otherwise the equatio (22) reduces to that ca be writte i the form G(s,r,t) F(r,t) = Q 2 (s,r)g(r,r,t)g(s,r,t), (35) = G(r,r,t), F(r,t) = l G(s,r,t) Q 2 (s,r). From the defiitio of F(r,t) we fid G(s,r,t) = expq 2 (s,r)f(r,t)] ad obtai G(r,r,t) = expq 2 (r,r)f(r,t)]. Thus we arrive at the followig equatio for F(r,t) which has the solutio F(r,t) = exp(q 2 (r,r)f(r,t)), F(r,t) = lq 2(r,r)(C t), Q 2 (r,r) ad we obtai the solutio of equatio (35) G(s,r,t) = exp Q ] 2(s,r) Q 2 (r,r) l Q 2(r,r)(C t) = Q 2 (r,r)(c t)] Q 2(s,r)/Q 2 (r,r). (36) 6
Settig i (36) t = 0 we obtai the itegratio costat C = 1 Q 2 (r,r) G Q 2(r,r)/Q 2 (s,r) 0, G 0 = G(s,r,0).
