A man in the audience held up a sign that read "VietNam", but a woman at his table grabbed it down. From Mr. Rostow: "The atmosphere between the two governments (u. s. and Germany) was honestly j changed by this trip. The real thing that did it was the President's meeting him face t o face, and the President stayed an extra hour w/ the Chancello r this morning. The President went away thinking ^MMBP better of him than when ( he went in. The President thought Kiesinger was sort of a dandy before he met him, but Kiesinger himself changed that impression. K handled himself with dignity and the mtg was decent and good, and I think a lot of the emotional steam has been taken out of the issues.
