Staying at home or finding good reasons not to participate in this kind of event is always easier. Entering an animal judging show requires efforts and disturbs our work routine. Yet, I m always surprised how stimulating these events are for our future generations. The Charlottetown Show is one perfect example. It is a unifying event, with a lot of young breeders, smiles, and fun! Under the leadership of Mr. Peter Rossiter and Mr. Garnet Schellen, the Charlottetown s Ayrshire show is growing in importance. Their volunteering work organizing this event is rewarded by the positive responses of the Atlantic Ayrshire breeders. Judge Greg Eldmonds, from Australia, had the pleasure of appraising 79 animals from the 4 Atlantic Provinces. These i n c l u d e d p r e f i x e s Riordon s, Landslide, Braefield, and Prospect Acres, from New Brunswick, Breckrow, Allegro, and Brixham, from Nova Scotia, and Ayr-Bay and Forever Schoon, from PEI. Also present were a few intruders, including Mapleburn, an embryo bought at the 2016 AGM Auction in Moncton, and Kildare and Pierre-Bleu, animals bought a few years ago at the national Elite Sale. And, finally, let us not forget the prefix Lorne Birch, representing Amy Woods, from the USA, who, rumour has it, will officially be joining the Rossiter Family in a few months Next page...2 Grand Champion Ayr Bay M C Jannette, Peter Rossiter Reserve Grand Forever Schoon Pretty Lady Forever Schoon Farm Honourable Mention Ayr Bay ABC Eclipse Peter Rossiter Junior Champion Brixham B Fisky, Windara Farm Reserve Junior Champion Brixham Burdett Roxy, Windara Farm Honourable Mention Brixham Volvo Decadent, Windara Farm

Windarra Farms dominated the Junior Championship, taking home all 3 Champion titles: Brixham B Fisky (Burdette), the Summer Yearling Champion, was crowned Junior Champion, Brixham Burdett Roxy (Intermediate Heifer) won Reserve Junior Champion, while the Honorable Mention went to Brixham Volvo Decadent (Summer Yearling). Both Junior Exhibitor and Breeder Banners proudly hung on display above Windarra Farms exhibit. The second part of the judgement was marked by some very impressive cow classes. For the second time in their history, Ayr-Bay Farm won the title of Grand Champion with their 4 year-old Ayr Bay MC Jannette. Forever Schoon Pretty Lady, 1 st 5 yearold, was named Reserve Champion, while the Honorable Mention went to Ayr Bay ABC Eclipse (2 nd 4 year-old). For yet another year, both Exhibitor and Breeder Banners were won by Forever Schoon Farms, owned by Mr. Garnet Schellen. Maritime Ayrshire Breeders, you should be very proud! T H E M A R I T I M E S A Y R S H I R E I N A C T I O N Page 5/6 N E W S F R O M A Y R S H I R E C A N A D A Animal Purity Percentage Registration Policy For the purpose of genetic improvement, a specific need, diversity, etc., Ayrshire Canada has in the past occasionally agreed to incorporate bulls in its Herd Book. Every bull had to be recommended by the Breed Improvement Committee and approved by the Board of Directors. To encourage their use, it was common practice to declare these animals purebred, although this was not always the case as per our previous bylaws. Nine (9) bulls were in this situation: T-Bruno, B-Jurist, Torpane, Dropstad, Peterslund, Hylella, Ingvasta, Orraryd, and R-Facet. In March 2017, at the AGM, members approved the new bylaws. These new bylaws clearly define the origins of the Ayrshire breed, in accordance with the decision of the World Ayrshire Federation. This decision makes the recognition of bloodlines more specific at the time of registration in our Herd Book. As such, from now on, the real percentage will be recorded in the Herd Book, as per our Registrar s evaluation. If a bull s purity is evaluated at 85%, this is the level of purity that will be recorded in our Book, and only the Association had the power to make this decision. This does not change in any way the genealogies and levels of purity currently recognized and recorded in our Herd Book. Our bylaws concerning the recognition of percentage and purebred animals (male and female) remain unchanged. When purchasing a new animal, we invite you to verify its level of Ayrshire purity or to communicate with us; it will be our pleasure to provide you with this information. Also, in order to make informed genetic decisions, we recommend that you require Canadian genomic evaluations from your providers.
