Objective Provide the industry with reports and training materials in preparation for the upcoming winter weather forecasts. 3

NOAA Long Range Forecast 4

NOAA Long Range Forecast But your mileage may vary NOAA forecasts for September 2017 made two weeks apart. 5

NOAA Long Range Forecast El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has a major influence on North American weather. The effects we feel lag the changes in ocean surface temperatures by a couple of months. 6

El Nino NOAA Long Range Forecast During the past year, we had a strong El Niño, which sent a lot of rain to the west coast, and gave us a mostly mild winter. La Nada La Nina 7

NOAA Long Range Forecast Earlier in the year, a trend toward a La Nada or a mild El Niño was predicted. 8

NOAA Long Range Forecast Observed temperatures cooled that prediction down and gave us a new one (lower right). NOAA s long range forecast may look dramatically different in October. It s best to be prepared. 9
