TravelEx a travelling exhibition about the importance of raw material to a Wider Society Learning and public awareness Anne Sylvie André Mayer(1) (PI); José Kullberg(2); Patrik Fiferna(3) & Rodrigo Martins (2) (1) University of Lorraine, (2) FCT/New University of Lisbon (3) Czech Geological Survey 3rd PROMETIA Scientific Seminar, Berlim, 14th December 2016

TravelEx General information Genaral name: Type of activity: Approved: Sept. 2016 Kick off: Jan. 2017 Underground resources travelling exhibition Duration: 3 years as a KIC project (5 y) Total Funding: 840 k Coodinator: University of Lorraine (F)

TravelEx Mainobjectives To set up a travelling exhibition providing easily accessible and general information about the importance of raw material to wider society and children aged from 8 to 17 years old. To sensitize the youngest and the wider society for securing access to raw materials is essencial, because recycling alone is not sufficient.

TravelEx Mainobjectives to sensitize the youngest (8 to 17 years old) and the wider society to the importance of assuring an adequate supply of raw material to enlighten the debate and raise awareness among the society and encouraging children and young people cultivating positive attitudes among the mines. to stimulate new career interests and increase the number of engineers, nurture scientific vocations and develop scientific aptitudes.

TravelEx Key deliverables The traveling exhibition it self, providing easilyaccessible, with general information about the scientific and economic contexts of securing access to raw material; comprehensive description of the metal cycle (exploration exploitation treatment recycling).

TravelEx Key deliverables interactive participatory activities and workshops based on the following questions: What is raw materials What is it made for? How is it formed? Where can we find the resources? Are our resources limitless? What are they use in everyday life products? What are the jobs depending on the availability of raw material sector?

TravelEx Underground resources travelling exhibition This project will set up a 200 to 300m 2 travelling exhibition providing easily accessible and general information about mining and raw material in society. 5 countries January 2017 June 2018: Exhibition Design July 2018: Inauguration Euroscience Open Forum August 2018 to. TravelEx The Didactic centre of geology

TravelEx The Didactic centre of geology Portal World of Geology (www.geology.cz/svet geologie) It encompasses a wealth of data related to the resent day knowledge of the Earth sciences presented in a popular form to children and teachers.

TravelEx More than 1000 students (10 to 17) received in our labs per year (hands on learning)

TravelEx Circa 10 credited courses for teachers (Life Long Learning) more than 20 laboratorial activities prepared to receive students from schools 40 partnerships with schools

TravelEx More than 15 study visits to the field per year

TravelEx Promoting scientific activities for children and general folks within the scope of Live Science Agency (3 to 5 per year, for almost 20 years) (e.g.: Geology in the Summer and Live Science in the Lab )

TravelEx Concluding remarks The usual lengths of this kind of exhibition is 5 years, aiming to achieve the required feedback and balance concerning the proposes objectives. As things are always changing a lot and very fast in this area we need to reassess the data after 3 years (figures, statistics, new discoveries, trends of the market, ). The three fist year will be covered by the KIC project and a business model will be establish for an autonomous management of the partners.
