The Electricity Access and Service Expansion (EASE) project aims to support the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to advance toward its universal electricity access goal, while responding to urgent needs for electricity in unserved and poorly served areas. The development objective of the project is to expand access to electricity in target areas. It is expected to provide new or improved electricity service to households/businesses, and to strengthen the capacities of some key power sector institutions. The project comprises three components: (1) Network Upgrades and Access Expansion in selected SNEL service areas (Kinshasa and Gbadolite); (2) Private Sector based Acces Expansion; and (3) Sector Development and Implementation Support. The project was approved by the World Bank on May 4, 2017; and the financing agreement was signed on June 13, 2017. The project implementing unit, hosted within the Ministry of Energy and Hydraulic Resources' unit for project coordination and management (UCM), is working to meet remaining conditions for the project effectiveness.
