1 Intrductin GENESIS Structural Optimizatin fr ANSYS Mechanical (GSAM) is an integrated extensin that adds structural ptimizatin t the ANSYS envirnment. The extensin prvides an easy-t-use interface which allws the user t setup Structural ptimizatin prblems, pst-prcess them and exprt the ptimizatin results within the ANSYS envirnment. GSAM is a super set f GTAM (GENESIS Tplgy Optimizatin fr ANSYS Mechanical). GSAM can perfrm any functin that GTAM des. The extra functinality is t perfrm tpgraphy, freefrm, sizing and tpmetry design. This dcument cvers the new features and enhancements added t GSAM/GTAM versin 16.0, which matches the versin f GENESIS engine. 2 Executive Summary The key new features and enhancements include the fllwing: New Features Tplgy Optimizatin fr Heat Transfer Analysis: Heat transfer analysis nw is supprted fr tplgy ptimizatin. Temperature respnse can be used fr tplgy ptimizatin with heat transfer analysis. An additinal new respnse, Heat Transfer Cmpliance (HTC), is added fr heat transfer lad case. New Fabricatin Cnstraints fr Tplgy: New n-hle ptin is added fr filling fabricatin cnstraints. This new ptin will nt create thrugh hles fr filling. External Eigenvalue Slver (EES): Nw it is pssible t use ANSYS as external eigenvalue slver during ptimizatin fr Mdal, Harmnic, r Randm Vibratins. Standalne ESL fr ANSYS: Optimizatin based n ESL methd fr ANSYS nw can be run directly frm cmmand line instead f within ANSYS Mechanical. RSM Supprt fr ESL based Optimizatin: ESL based ptimizatin is supprted fr ANSYS Remte Slve Manager (RSM). RSM Supprt fr EES based Optimizatin: EES based ptimizatin is supprted fr ANSYS Remte Slve Manager (RSM). Supprt fr ANSYS Superelement: ANSYS superelement is nw supprted in GSAM/GTAM. Using Updated External Thermal Lad (ETL): The user can nw use ANSYS thermal analysis t cmpute the updated Imprted Bdy Temperature fr ptimizatin f thermal-mechanical cupled systems Updated DOT Optimizer: GENESIS nw uses DOT 7.2 which is the latest versin f the DOT ptimizer. 3 Structural Optimizatin Enhancement 1. Tplgy Optimizatin fr Heat Transfer Analysis: Heat transfer analysis nw is supprted fr tplgy ptimizatin. Temperature respnse can be used fr tplgy ptimizatin with heat transfer analysis. An additinal new respnse, Heat Transfer Cmpliance (HTC), is added fr heat transfer lad case. 2. Heat Transfer Cmpliance Respnse: In thermal lad case, the heat transfer 1 cmpliance (HTC) is defined as HTC = -- { T} T { F}, where {T} is the vectr f grid 2 temperatures, and {F} is the vectr f applied heat fluxes. When HTC is minimized, temperature at grids where heat fluxes are applied is minimized. 3. Strain Respnse: Strain respnse are nw available thrugh GSAM/GTAM interface. 4. Grid Stress: Grid stress and dynamic grid stress are nw available thrugh GSAM/GTAM interface. 5. 4 Tplgy Optimizatin Enhancement 1. N Hle Optin fr Filling: A new ptin is added fr filling fabricatin cnstraints. With n hle ptin, tplgy design will nt create thrugh hles. N hle ptin is available fr filling frm general plane (FGX, FGY, FGZ), filling frm tp (FTX, FTY, FTZ), and filling frm bttm (FBX, FBY, FBZ). 5 External Eigenvalue Slver Instead f using GENESIS eigenvalue slver fr frequency calculatin, the user can nw use ANSYS eigenvalue slver as the slutin methd. At each design cycle, GENESIS will call the External Eigenvalue Slver (ANSYS in this case) t slve the eigenvalue prblem, while GENESIS is used fr ptimizing the structure. 6 Standalne ESL fr ANSYS New Features Instead f slving the ESL based ptimizatin within ANSYS envirnment, the user can exprt the necessary files and run ESL fr ANSYS as a standalne prgram. The user als needs t set envirnment variables pinting t the GENESIS executable lcatin and ESL fr ANSYS install lcatin n the machine where the ptimizatin will be perfrmed. 7 Supprt fr ANSYS RSM In previus versins, ANSYS RSM is nly supprted fr ptimizatin using GENESIS slver nly. In this new versin, the user can run ptimizatin based n ESL methd r EES methd which requires bth GENESIS and ANSYS thrugh RSM tls. The user needs t set envirnment variable called VRAND_ESLANSYS_INSTALL n the RSM server machine. 8 Supprt fr ANSYS Superelement New Features Substructuring is a prcedure that cndenses a grup f finite elements int ne element represented as a matrix. This matrix is called superelement. In GSAM/GTAM, the user can use superelement generated by ANSYS in a GENESIS analysis r ptimizatin. Typically, the user can reduce the nn-designable regin as superelement. With GSAM/GTAM extensin, the prcedures fr utilizing ANSYS superelement is differentiated in tw cases based n if the reduced part/bdy is part f the ANSYS Mechanical mdel. 9 Using Updated External Thermal Lad (ETL) In case f thermal-mechanical cupled systems, instead f using GENESIS fr thermal analysis, the user can nw use ANSYS thermal analysis t cmpute the updated Imprted Bdy Temperature fr static system.
