Describe the structure of ionic compounds, including the electrostatic forces of attraction, and represent ionic compounds using dot and cross diagrams 30 Describe the limitations of using dot and cross, ball and stick, two and three-dimensional diagrams to represent a giant ionic structure 30 Name the three States of matter, identify them from a simple model and state which changes of state happen at melting and boiling points 36 & 37 Describe how the structure of ionic compounds affects their properties, including melting and boiling points and conduction of electricity 30 Explain the properties of graphite, diamond and graphene in terms of their structure and bonding 34 Describe the structure of fullerenes, and their uses, including Buckminsterfullerene and carbon nanotubes 34 State that mass is conserved and explain why, including describing balanced equations in terms of conservation of mass 43 Describe what the relative formula mass (Mr) of a compound is and calculate the relative formula mass of a compound, given its formula 41 Define a pure substance and identify pure substances and mixtures from data about melting and boiling points 86 Explain how to test for the presence of hydrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and chlorine 88 State what humans use Earth's resources for, give some examples of natural resources that they use 99 Discuss the importance of water quality for human life, including defining potable water 102 Describe methods to produce potable water, including desalination of salty water or sea water and the potential problems of desalination 102 Required practical 8: analysis and purification of water samples from different sources, including ph, dissolved solids and distillation. 18 Describe waste water as a product of urban lifestyles and industrial processes that includes organic matter, harmful microbes and harmful chemicals 102 Describe the process of sewage treatment and compare the ease of obtaining potable water from waste water as opposed to ground or salt water 103 State examples of natural products that are supplemented or replaced by agricultural and synthetic products 105
Year 9 English Revision Guide Students will be asked to read and annotate an extract from an unseen short story. They will then be asked to write an essay analysing the presentation of setting in the extract. Students will be assessed on their: Understanding of the text; Ability to select evidence from the text and use quotations in the essay; Understanding of how the text is designed to affect the reader; Analysis of language (vocabulary, sentence types/lengths/structures, punctuation, figurative devices) and structure. Year 9 Geography Revision Guide In the Year 9 exam we will be asking students a range of questions from multiple choice 1 markers and 3-9 mark questions. The paper will be based on the style of the GCSE with questions increasing in value. The focus will be on map skills along with volcano formation and effects, patterns of global crime and its effects. All students will be given additional information on revision techniques and where information can be found within their books as well as a revision PowerPoint..
Year 9 History Revision Guide In the Year 9 exam we will be asking students three different questions - which aim to assess three key skills within History. The paper will be based on the style of the GCSE with questions increasing in value. The focus will be on the Evacuation period during World War Two, focusing on how the students can analyse sources and interpretations, both of these questions are worth 8 marks each. The final question worth 16 marks will be assessing how students formulate and develop their explanations and judgements, focusing upon the impact that evacuation had on all children involved. Students will be given additional information in class, on revision techniques and where information can be found within their books.
