8. Research interests: 1. The origin and evolution of the Precambrian crust 2. The classification and petrogenesis of granitoid rocks 3. Petrogenesis of Alkaline Rocks 4. Evolution of Metamorphic rocks 5. Sedimentary provenance studies I apply petrological and geochemical techniques together with intense field studies to understand the origin and evolution of the continental crust. Specifically, I work on rocks of Proterozoic age and on diverse types of geologic materials, including igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. My long-standing research interest is to study the evolution of Precambrian continental crust, with particular focus on the Chhotanagpur Gneissic Complex. The current funded research in this area is in the North Puruliya Shear Zone, where I am investigating about the genesis of porphyritic granitoids, alkaline rocks and REE Mineralization and high-pressure metamorphism. I interpret these rocks to document an ancient continent-continent collision. Another long-standing interest is in tracing sediment recycling and provenance. Currently I am studying the Alwar Basin of North Delhi Fold Belt and the Palnad sub-basin of Cuddapah. I am also studying sediment transport in river system in cratonic and orogenic regions. 9.
