With reference to case studies of countries at different stages of development. Population change and migration affects the character of rural and urban areas. Settlement case studies comparing A-level Geography offers a natural progression from GCSE, following AQA 2030. This course gives students engage with the relationship of human populations to each other over space and study the relationship between human populations with their physical environment at a variety of scales from the local to the global consider their own role in relation to themes and issues being studied and the roles, values and attitudes of others including decision makers choose between specialised content at both AS and A2, including a dedicated fieldwork option on Unit 4.

Module 2 Human Global Population Change Population indicators to include vital rates (birth rate, death rate, fertility two (or more) of the following areas: an inner city area, a suburban area, an area of rural/urban fringe and an area of rural settlement. To include reference to characteristics such as: housing, ethnicity, age structure, wealth and employment and the provision of services. The implications of the above for social welfare. Revision Revision lessons will take place and will include exam practice for fieldwork and skills along with core and other modules. A2 Module teaching begins after the exam period. A2 Module 1 Physical Plate Tectonics and Associated Hazards Earth structure, plate tectonics theory: convection currents and seafloor spreading. Evidence: continental drift and palaeomagnetism. Two modules one physical and one human are taught in conjunction with each other. The modules are chosen from a selection and are at the discretion of the teacher. Fieldwork In year 12 students visit High Borrans where they collect data for Geog 2 and Geog 4a, whilst learning other geographical skills. Vulcanicity - variations in the type and frequency of volcanic activity in relation to types of plate margin and types of lava. Minor forms of extrusive activity geysers, hot springs and boiling mud Module 2 Physical Weather and Climate hazards The structure of the atmosphere, the atmospheric heat budget, the general atmospheric circulation, planetary surface winds, latitude, oceanic circulation and altitude. Interrelationships between the factors leading to different climates The climate of the British Isles Weather and Climate Hazards cont. Global climate change Evidence for climatic change over the last 20 000 years. Global warming: possible causes. Possible effects: on a global scale, on the chosen tropical region (above) and on the British Isles. Responses to global warming: international, national and local The subject content includes physical and human geography which will be taught in conjunction with each other. Skills and fieldwork will be incorporated into the lessons at the discretion of the teacher.

Two case studies of recent (within the last 30 years. Climate on a local scale: urban climates - temperatures: the urban heat island effect - precipitation: frequency and intensity, fogs, thunderstorms and their relationship to urban form and processes. Global social economic groupings The concept of the North/South divide, and its relationship to the development continuum. The reasons for the social and economic grouping of nations, with particular reference to the European Union. The consequences of the groupings of nations. Aspects of globalisation Transnational corporations (TNCs): characteristics and spatial organisation. The reasons for the growth and the spatial organisation of transnational corporations (TNCs). One case study of one TNC should be undertaken. Social, economic and environmental impacts of TNCs on their host countries, and their countries of origin. Development issues within the world (each to be studied with reference to contrasting areas of the world) Trade versus aid

Urban decline and regeneration within urban areas The characteristics and causes of urban decline. Urban regeneration: gentrification, property-led regeneration schemes, partnership schemes between local and national governments and the private sector. Changing economic circumstances lead to changes in the cityscape. Retailing and other services The decentralisation of retailing and other services causes and impacts. One case study of an out-of-town centre retailing area. The redevelopment of city centres impacts and responses, including one case study of an urban centre that has undergone redevelopment. Changing shopping habits and communications lead to changing shopping facilities. Contemporary sustainability issues in urban areas Waste management: recycling and its alternatives.
