COST Action MP0701 Workshop Nanoparticles Surface (Modified/Unmodified) as a base for the interaction rd th 23 24 September 2010. Novi Sad, Serbia Second Announcement The workshop is part of an ongoing activity within the COST project MP0701 on Nanocomposite Polymer Materials entitled: Composites with novel functional and structural properties by nanoscale materials (Nano Composite Materials NCM) http://www.nanocomposites-cost.eu. Welcome We are pleased to invite you to the COST MP0701 Workshop which will be held from 23 rd to 24 th September in Novi Sad, Serbia. The focus of this Workshop will be recent developments in nanoparticles surface or polymer modification in order to achieve polymer/nanoparticles interaction leading to polymer nanocomposites with desired final properties. Scope Polymer nanocomposites have been the focus of recent research and became an opening challenge from both the industrial and fundamentals points of view. Combination of the of organic polymer matrix advantages (e.g. flexibility, dielectric, ductility and processability) with inorganic nanoscale particles advantages (e.g. rigidity, thermal stability, improving properties in low content) leads to dramatic changes in functional and structural properties compared to pure polymers or conventionally filled composites. Polymer nanocomposites combine both, polymer science and technology. Therefore the investigations in this field cover different topics such as: polymer bland and composite reinforcement, barrier properties, flame resistance, electro-optical properties cosmetic application, bactericidal properties, polymer-based biomaterials, nanoparticles drug delivery, miniemulsion particles and etc. However, in spite of this huge interest, there are many unresolved problems in this field. One of the main problems which can influence the macroscopic behaviour of the resulting composite is uniform dispersion of nanoparticles in polymer matrix. There are many factors which control the dispersion and one of them is the interaction between nanoparticles and polymer phase. The main subject of this workshop is the presentation of recent developments regarding nanoparticles surface or polymer modification in order to achieve polymer/nanoparticles interaction leading to polymer nanocomposites with desired final properties.
This Workshop will include diverse aspects related to chemical and physical nanoparticles surface modifications and their interactions. Who should attend? The purpose of this workshop: - to develop and improve dialogue between industry and research - to gather international scientists and industrialists working on or interested in diverse aspects related to chemical and physical nanoparticles surface modifications and their interactions with polymeric matrix - to discuss the recent developments and cutting edge challenges in this field.
