- 2- [EMH 211] Q1. [a] Explain the followings: Terangkan perkara berikut: (iii) (iv) (v) (vi) (vii) (viii) Define the Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics. Takrifkan Hukum Sifar Termodinamik. Define the First Law of Thermodynamics. Takrifkan Hukum Pertama Termodinamik. What is a perpetual motion machine and why it is impossible? Apakah mesin pergerakan sentiasa dan kenapa ia adalah mustahil? What is the difference between reversible and irreversible processes? Apakah perbezaan di antara proses boleh balik dan proses tidak boleh balik? State the Second Law of Thermodynamics according to Clausius Statement and Kelvin Planck Statement, respectively. Nyatakan Hukum Kedua Termodinamik berdasarkan kenyataan Clausius dan Kelvin Planck. State the 2 causes of entropy change. Nyatakan 2 sebab yang mengubah entropi. Write down the formula for isentropic efficiency for turbine and compressor. Tuliskan formula kecekapan isentropic bagi turbin dan kompresor. Define exergy. Takrifkan eksergi. [b] A pressure cooker is set to a pressure of 175 kpa. The volume of the pressure cooker is 4 liters and contains 2 liters of water. If the rate of heat supply is 2kW, calculate the duration for the pressure to reach 175 kpa? Sebuah periuk tekanan di set pada tekanan 175 kpa. Isipadu periuk adalah 4 liter dan mengandungi air 2 liter. Jika kadar haba terbekal adalah 2 kw, kirakan masa yang diperlukan untuk tekanan didalam periuk mencapai 175 kpa. 3/-

- 3- [EMH 211] Q2. [a] Steam in a rigid container has pressure of 4 bar and a dryness fraction of 0.4. Sketch the process on a P-v diagram. The container is heated to a pressure of 10 bar. Calculate the final temperature and heat supplied. Stim di dalam sebuah bekas adalah pada tekanan 4 bar dan pecahan kekeringan 0.4. Bekas tersebut dipanaskan ke tekanan 10 bar. Lakarkan proses tersebut pada gambarajah P-v. Kirakan suhu akhir dan haba terbekal. - 4- [EMH 211] Q3. [a] One kilogram of steam is on an isothermal process from pressure 20 bar and temperature at 250 C to the pressure 30 bar. Stim berjisim 1 kg yang berada dalam proses isotermal dari tekanan 20 bar dan suhu 250 C ke tekanan 30 bar. Sketch the process on T-s diagram. Lakarkan proses pada rajah T-s. Calculate the heat and state either heat is supplied or rejected. Kirakan haba dan nyatakan sama ada haba dibekalkan atau disingkirkan. [b] One kilogram of air with pressure of 1.013 bar and temperature 17 C is compressed based on law of pv 1.3 = constant until its pressure becomes 5 bar. Udara berjisim satu kilogram pada tekanan 1.013 bar dan suhu 17 C dimampatkan berdasarkan hukum pv 1.3 = malar sehingga tekanannya mencecah 5 bar. Sketch the process on T-s diagram. Lakarkan proses pada rajah T-s. Calculate the changes in entropy. Kirakan perubahan dalam entropi. 5/-

- 5- [EMH 211] Q4. At the beginning of the compression process of an air-standard Diesel cycle operating with a compression ratio of 18, the temperature is 300 K and the pressure is 0.1 MPa. The cut-off ratio for the cycle is 2. Assume that the air is modelled as an ideal gas. Pada permulaan proses mampatan kitaran Diesel beroperasi dengan nisbah mampatan 18, suhu adalah 300 K dan pada tekanan 0.1 MPa. Nisbah potongan bagi kitar tersebut adalah 2. Andaikan udara sebagai gas unggul. (iii) Sketch the cycle of a P-v diagram. Lakarkan kitar gambarajah P-v. Calculate the temperature and pressure at the end of each process of the cycle. Kirakan suhu dan tekanan pada akhir setiap proses kitaran. Calculate the thermal efficiency. Kirakan kecekapan terma. (iv) Calculate the mean effective pressure, in MPa. Kirakan tekanan berkesan min, dalam MPa. (100 marks/markah) Q5. Consider a steam power plant operating on the ideal reheat Rankine cycle. Steam enters the high-pressure turbine at 15 MPa and 600 C and is condensed in the condenser at a pressure of 10 kpa. Given the moisture content of the steam at the exit of the low-pressure turbine is not to exceed 10.4%. Assume the steam is reheated to the inlet temperature of the highpressure turbine. Pertimbangkan sebuah loji kuasa stim dikendalikan berdasarkan kitar ideal Rankine dengan pemanas semula. Keadaan stim memasuki turbin adalah pada 15 MPa dan 600 C dan dikondensasikan dalam kondenser pada tekanan 10 kpa. Diberikan kandungan kelembapan stim selepas turbin bertekanan-rendah adalah tidak melebihi 10.4%. Andaikan bahawa stim dipanaskan semula pada suhu masuk turbin bertekanan-tinggi.
