Polyvinyl chloride PVC * The polyvinyl chloride, abbreviated PVC, is one of the oldest synthetic polymeric compounds (e.g. epoxy resin is a polymeric compound). Some important properties of the material PVC that are in particular important in building engineering are listed in the following: PVC has a highly chemical resistance, e.g. against the most inorganic acids, alkalies and salt solutions, dipolar solvents, gases and many organic compounds such as fats, oils, aliphatic hydrocarbons (petrol, alcohol), detergents, water. Insensitive to environmental influences, acid rain, coastal areas (salty air), water chlorinated in swimming baths. Highly resistance to ageing, no decrease of the surface quality is to be expected. Light and weather resistance. Very good possibility for working, low thermal conductivity of 0,17 W/mK (aluminium 209,3 W/mK, wood 0,16 W/mK). Not resistant is PVC to dipolar solvents such as esters, benzene, what will be compensated by the coating. Working using normal cutting tools, cutting saw or mitre saw are, for example, recommended. Our products can be coated using all synthetic resin systems. * Note: Our polyvinyl profiles (PVP) consist of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Note for glueing using adhesives: We recommend for glueing of the concave moulding profiles as well as of the drip edge 1 K PU (one-component polyurethane sealing compound). For the floor area use only 2 K PU and/or 2 K epoxy resin (2 K = two-component). The staircase edges will be glued holohedrally in principle using 2 K epoxy resin only (tread side). Between the concave moulding profiles 2 mm are to be set free as expansion joint.
A good price performance ratio in comparison with other materials. The material of the profiles can be recycled. Our PVC contains no plasticizers. Our PVP profiles meet the requirements for cleanroom coatings in accordance with VDI-2083 Cleanroom technology Part 4 1996-02 Surface cleanliness. Deformations are possible (further information naturally on request). The profiles are always to handle using clean gloves in order to avoid soiling. Profiles with radius of 20 cm are suitable for fork lift truck traffic provided the static equilibrium of the foundation allows this. Basis for stabilizing: Free from lead. Field of application: Normally, for the inside and outside area. Substrates shall be load-bearing and non-absorbent.
Author: in September 2006 Dr. Kurt Eckhardt Fachberater Bauchemie und Bautenschutz Lausner Weg 56 D-04207 Leipzig Tel.: +49 (0)341 4214843 Resistance in the inside and outside area Because of the resistance of the PVP profiles (polyvinyl profiles) we guarantee the use in the inside and outside area. Coating by the use of all synthetic resin coating systems is long-lasing if applied correctly. PVC is a proven material in the building industry already since more than 70 years (for windows, doors, rainwater gutters etc.). Because of its chemical structure PVC shows highly ageing resistance to environmental influences (sun, temperature, humidity) and to stronly aggressive media such as salt solutions, acids and alkalies. In comparison with products based on epoxy resin PVC products are more ageing-resistant.
