Insulated eaings MEGAOHM TM Seies : Offeing Enhanced Safety and Reliability eaings used in electical equipment such as motos and powe geneatos tend to exhibit electical pitting as a esult of cuent leakage. T's MEGAOHM TM Seies of insulated beaings has been specifically designed to counteact electical pitting. These beaings ae available in both ceamic and esin types suited to a vaiety of applications. The MEGAOHM TM Seies of insulated beaings offes the following unique advantages: Exhibits insulation esistance of at least MΩ at 0 VDC. Available in a wide ange of vaiants with vaious insulating laye mateials, high voltage esistance and shock iunity that accoodate divese use equiements. Compatible with ISO 9, DI 60 and JIS 151 standads. Available in boe diametes anging fom to 160. The Mechanism of Electical Pitting An electical cuent pesent nea a beaing can flow to the inside of the beaing, causing spaks that damage the olling contact suface. This phenomenon is known as "electical pitting." When such spaks fist occu, cicula spots can appea on the olling contact suface (Photo 1). The themal effects of the spaks can cause the metallugical composition and hadness in this poblematic aea to diffe fom those of the suounding nomal aeas, esulting in a white laye, hadened laye and tempeed laye. As a esult, the poblematic aea can eventually develop flaking. Futhemoe, if the electical pitting phenomenon pogesses, a cougation patten (Photo ) can develop that inceases unning noise and vibation. Consequently, the beaing can no longe adequately function. Photo 1 Photo White laye Hadened laye Tempeed laye 1 Photo Fig. 1

Insulated eaings MEGAOHM TM Seies Typical Applications Electic Motos The insulated beaings MEGAOHM TM Seies is widely used in the taction motos of ailway cas. The unique knowledge and expeience T has gained fom moto applications in ailways- whee safety is the o. 1 pioity- have contibuted to the geatly impoved eliability of geneal-pupose motos. Taction motos Powe Geneatos The insulated beaings MEGAOHM TM Seies is also used in wind powe geneation systems, which ae one solution to enegy issues such as the pevention of global waming. These beaings contibute to the impoved eliability of eco-fiendly wind powe geneation systems. Geneato unit 5

Insulated eaings MEGAOHM TM Seies Opeating Pecautions To avoid an accident o failue esulting fom damage to insulated beaings, caefully obseve the following. eve dop an insulated beaing o stike it diectly with a hae duing installation (Illustations 1 and ). Do not use an insulated beaing if a defect is visible on the suface (Illustation ) o it has an unusual appeaance. Attaching an electical conducto to an insulated beaing can lowe the beaing s insulation esistance. To pevent cuent flow fom the side faces of a beaing, stictly obseve the mounting dimensions given in the dimension tables fo equied shoulde height. Poviding appoximately 15 of elief (illustated at ight) at the entance to the housing will facilitate assembly. Fo DC motos such as those used in ailway cas, eath-gound the shaft duing a voltage esistance test. 0.5 minimum 10 15 Relief at entance of housing boe Excessive shock can damage the insulating laye, possibly esulting in electical pitting. Electical pitting can in tun damage the beaing, leading to abnomal beaing pefomance and possible faulty opeation o failue. Illustation 1 Illustation Illustation 6
