List of Instruments in Advanced Analytical Laboratory DST-PURSE Programme, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam Name of the Equipment Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) & Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) Image Andhr a Univer sity User charges(inr) Outside Academic and R&D Institutions Industries and others 300/- 1000/- 2000/- Surface analyses of metals, alloys, nonmaterials, amorphous & crystalline chemical compounds, microbial cell surface spores and fruiting bodies of fungal mycelia analysis are performed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The Scanning Electron Microscope is equipped with an Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), its immense application is qualitative elemental analysis with characterization of organic and inorganic particle contamination and determination of particle size. 300/- 1500/- 2000/- Electron Spin Resonance Spectrometer with X-band (ESR) Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) or electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy is a technique for studying materials with unpaired electrons. EPR spectroscopy is particularly useful for studying metal complexes for determining magnetic property.
300/- 1000/- 2000/- X-Ray Diffraction Unit (XRD) X-ray diffraction is most widely used for the identification of unknown crystalline materials (e.g. minerals, inorganic compounds). Determination of unknown solids is critical for studies in Geology, Environmental science, Material science, Engineering and Biology. 500/- 1000/- 2000/- Liquid Chromatography & Mass Spectrophotometer (LC-MS) LC-MS (or HPLC- MS, Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) is the combination of the physic - chemical separation capabilities of liquid chromatography (or HPLC) and the mass analysis capabilities of mass spectrometry (MS). LC-MS is frequently used in drug development, in vivo drug screening, impurity identification, degradant identification and quality control.
200/- 400/- 500/- Florescence Microscope The fluorescence microscope is used for identifying biological specimens such as bacteria, protozoans, cancer cells & tissues. 100/- 200/- 200/- FT-IR Spectrophotometer Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is a technique which is used to obtain an infrared spectrum of absorption, emission, photoconductivity or Raman scattering of a solid, liquid or gas. It is an easy way to identify the presence of certain functional groups in a molecule. 2000/- 5000/- 10000/- Protein I12 TM IEF System (2-D Electrophoresis) & Densitometer 2D-PAGE is a form of gel electrophoresis in which separation and identification of proteins in a sample are done by displacement in 2 dimensions oriented at right angles to one another (orthogonal). This technique is also used to compare two or more sample to find differences in their protein expressions.
500/- 1000/- 1500/- Flow Cytometer Guava easycyte HT Flow cytometry is a laserbased, biophysical technology employed in cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering. It has broad application in medicine; it is extensively used in research for the detection of DNA damage, caspase cleavage and apoptosis. 300/- 500/- 1000/- High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography System (HPTLC) High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) is an enhanced form of Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). A number of enhancements can be made to the basic method of thin layer chromatography to automate the different steps. 300/- 1000/- 1500/- Ultra centrifuge Optima XPN- 100 The ultracentrifuge is a centrifuge optimized for spinning a rotor at very high speeds, capable of generating acceleration as high as (approx.19, 600 km/s²). Preparative ultracentrifuge aims to isolate and purify, sub cellular organelles or multiprotein complexes.
20/- 50/- 100/- UV-Visible Spectrophotometer UV-2450 High- Temperature Chamber Furnace with SiC Rod(1600 0 C) Ultraviolet visible spectroscopy refers to absorption spectroscopy or reflectance Spectroscopy in the ultraviolet-visible spectral region. UV/Vis spectroscopy is routinely used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analyses, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules. 400/- 500/- 800/- A furnace is a device used for high-temperature heating. It is used for the extraction of metal from ore (smelting) or in oil refineries and other chemical plants. Network Analyzer 200/- (RT- 200 0 C) 300/- (200-450 0 C) 600/- (RT- 200 0 C) 800/- (200-450 0 C) 1000/- (RT-200 0 C) 1200/- (200-450 0 C) A network analyzer is an instrument that measures the network parameters of electrical networks. Network analyzers are often used to characterize two-port networks such as amplifiers and filters, but they can be used on networks with an arbitrary number of ports.
100/- 250/- 500/- Atomic Absorption Spectrometer -240 (AAS) Graphite furnace System Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) is a spectroanalytical procedure for the quantitative determination of chemical elements using the absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state. AAS can be used to determine over 70 different elements in solution or directly in solid samples used in pharmacology, biophysics and toxicology research. There are 13 standard elements available in the lab: As,Ca,Cd,Co,Cu,Ga,Hg,K, Mo,Pd,Ni,Se,Zn. In order to avail these facilities a DD must be drawn in the favour of The Co-ordinator, Advanced Analytical Laboratory, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in any Nationalized bank. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has identified Andhra University as one of the 14 performing Institutions in terms of research contribution. The H-Index based on Scopus of the University stands at 41. PURSE initiative is taken by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India to initiate value added proactive measures through introduction of R&D Incentive Grant. Under the PURSE Program, DST intends to provide support to performing Universities across the country essentially for research man-power cost, augmentation of equipment and computational facilities, research consumables, organization of scientific conferences/workshops, travel and maintenance of the facilities. The Advanced Analytical Laboratory, a National facility to carry out the cutting edge research in allied fields of Science, Engineering and Pharmacy was established in the year 2009. The centre is equipped with the above sophisticated instruments which help the faculty, research scholars and students to carry out globally competitive R & D in basic and applied sciences like Biological, Chemical, Physical, Pharmaceutical, Mathematical, Engineering and Earth sciences.
