Then, the colonists encountered an Indian who surprised them when they saw that he spoke English. He had learned English from traders on the coast of Maine. What was his name? 31. He showed them where to find game and fowl. He shared many ancient family secrets and recipes with the Pilgrims. Because he could speak English so well, Governor William Bradford asked him to serve as ambassador to the Indian tribes and was invited to become a member of the colony. He negotiated a peace treaty with the nearby Indian tribes. What was his name?
