Of course this is a new result in Menger spaces. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: 47H10, 54H25. Introduction Menger [6] introduced the notion of probabilistic metric spaces, which is generalization of metric space, and the study of these spaces was expanded rapidly with the pioneering work of Schweizer and Sklar [12], [13]. The theory of probabilistic metric spaces is of fundamental importance in probabilistic functional analysis. Recently, fixed point theorems in Menger spaces hae been proed by many authors including Bylka [1], Pathak, Kang and Baek [8], Stojakoic [16], [17], [18], Hadzic [4], [5], Dedeic and Sarapa [3], Rashwan and Hedar [11], Mishra [7], Radu [9], [10], Sehgal and Bharucha-Reid [14], Cho, Murthy and Stojakoic [2]. Preliminaries Let R denote the set of reals and R+ the non-negatie reals. A mapping F: R R+ is called a distribution function if it is non- decreasing and left continuous with inf F =0 and sup F = 1. We will denote by L the set of all distribution functions. 11

Common fixed Points for Multimaps in Menger Spaces A probabilistic metric space is a pair (X, F ), where X is non empty set and F is a mapping from XXX: to L. For (u, ) E XXX:, the distribution function F (u, ) is denoted by Fu,. The function Fu, are assumed to satisfy the following conditions: (Pt) Fu, (x) = 1 for eery x > 0 if and only if u =, (P2) F, u (0) = 0 for eery u, E X, (P3) Fu, (x) = F, u(x) for eery u, E X, (P4) if Fu, (x) = 1 and F, w(y) = I then Fu, w (x + y) = 1 for eery u,, we X and x, y >0. In metric space (X, d) the metric d induces a mapping F : X x X -7 L such that F (u, ) (x) = Fu, (x) = H( x- d(u, )) For eery u, E X and x E R, where H is a distributie function defined by 0 X ~0 H(x) = 1 x>o. Definition 1. A functio [0, 1] x [0, 1] -7 [0, 1] is called at- norm if it satisfies the following conditions: (tt) t (a, 1) =a for eery a E [0,1] and t(o, 0) = 0, (h) t(a, b)= t(b, a) for eery a, be [0,1], (h) If c;;::: a and d;;::: b then t(c, d) ;;::: t(a, b), (4) t(t(a, b), c)= t(a, t(b, c)) for eery a, b, c E [0, 1]. Definition 2. A Menger space is a triple (X, F, t), where (X, F) is a PM-space and tis a T -norm with the following condition: (Ps) Fu, w (x+y) ;;::: t ( Fu, (x), F, w (y)) for eery u,, w E X and x, y E R+. The concept of neighbourhood in PM-spaces was introduced by Schwizer-Sklar [12].1fu E X, > 0 and A E (0, 1), then an (, A)-neighbourhood of u, denoted by Uu(, A) is defmed by Uu(, A)= { E X: Fu, ( ) > 1- A} If (X, F, t) is a Menger space with the continuous T- norm t, then the family {Uu(, A) : u E X, > 0 and A E (0, 1)} of neighbourhoods induces a Hausdorff topology on X and if sup a<i t(a, a) =1, it is metrizable. An important T-norm is the T-norm t(a, b)= min{a, b} for all a, be [0,1] and this is the unique T-norm such that t(a, a) ;;::: a for eery a E [0,1]. Indeed if it satisfies this condition, we hae min{a, b} ~t(min{a, b}, min{a, b}) ::;; t(a, b) ~ t(min{a, b},1) = min {a, b} Therefore, t = min. In the sequel, we need the following definitions due to Radu [9]. Definition 3. Let (X, F, t) be a Menger space with continuous T- norm t. A sequence { Xn} of points in X is said to be conergent to a point x E X if for eery > 0 limn--too Fxn, X( ) = 1. 12

Bhaana Deshpande Definition 4.. Let (X, F, t) be a Menger space with continuous T-norm t. A sequence { Xn } of points in X is said to be Cauchy sequence if for eery E > 0 and A > 0, there exists an integer N = N(E, A) > 0 such that Fxn, Xm (E) > 1 -A for all m, n ~ N. Definition 5. A Menger space (X, F, t) with the continuous T -norm t is said to be complete if eery Cauchy sequence in X conerges to a point in X. Lemma 1 [13, 15]. Let {xn} be a sequence in a Menger space (X, F, t), where tis a continuous T- norm and t(x, x) ~ x for all x e [0, l]. If there exists a constant k e (0, 1) such that Fxn, Xn+t (kx) ~ Fxn-1. Xn (x) for all x > 0 and n e N, then {xn} is a Cauchy sequence in X. We introduce the following concept for multialued mappings in Menger space (X, F, t): We denote by CB(X) the set of all nonempty, bounded and closed subsets of X. We hae Fy, B (x) =max{ Fy, b(x): be B} FA, B (x) =min {mina ea {F a, B (x) }, minb eb {F A, b (x)}} for all A, Bin X and x > 0. Main Results Theorem 1. Let (X, F, t) be a complete Menger space with t(x, y) =min {x, y} for all x, y e [0, l]. Let S, T: X ~ CB(X) satisfying: FSu, T (kx) ~ min { Fu, ( x), F u, Su (x), F, T (x), Fu, T ((2- a)x)), F, Su (x)} (1.1) For all u, e X, x ~ 0, where k e (0, 1) and all a e (0, 2). Then S and T hae a common fixed point. Proof. Let Xo be an arbitrary point in X and Xt e X is such that Xt e S:xo and F:xo, Xt(kx) ~ F:xo. S:xo (kx)- E, xz e X is such that xz e Txt and Fxt, xz(kx) ~ F Xt. Txt (kx)- 12. Inductiely X2n+tE X is such that X2n+1e Sxzn and Fxzn, X2n+1(kx) ~ FVX2n, Sxzn (kx)- fl2 2 n, X2n+2E X is such that X2n+2 e Tx2n+ 1 and FX2n+I. X2n+2(kx) ~ FVX2n+h TX2n+1 (kx)- fl2 2 n+ 1. Now we show that { Xn} is a Cauchy sequence. By (1.1) for all x ~ 0 and a= 1 - q with q e (0, 1), we write FX2n+h Xzn+2(kx) ~ pv X2n+h TX2n+1 (kx)- fl2 2 n+l ~ FSzn, TXzn+ 1 (kx) - fl2 2 n+ 1 ~min{ Fxzn. X2n+1(x), F X2n, Sx2n (x), F Xzn+h TX2n+1 (x), FVX2n. T X2n+t((2- a)x)), FVX2n+l SX2n (x)}- fl2 2 n+l ~min{ Fxzn, X2n+1(x), Fxzn, X2n+l(x), Fx2n+h X2n+2 (x), Fx2n, X2n+2((1 + q)x)), FX2n+h X2n+t(X)}- fl2 2 n+l ~min{ FX2n, X2n+l(X), FX2n, X2n+t(X), FX2n+h X2n+2 (x), t(fx2n, X2n+t(X), FX2n+h X2n+2(qx)), 1}- fl2 2 n+ 1. (1.2) Since t is a continuous T- norm and distribution function F is left continuous, letting q ~1, in (1.2), we hae FX2n+h X2n+2(kx) ~ min{ FX2n, X2n+l(X), FX2n+h X2n+2 (x)}- fl2 2 n+ 1. (1.3) 13

Common fixed Points for Multimaps in Menger Spaces Similarly we hae also FX2n+2, X2n+3(kx) ~ min { Fx2n+!, X2n+2(X), FX2n+2 X2n+3 (x)} - E/2 20 + 2. (1.4) Thus from (1.3) and (1.4) it follows that Fxn+l, Xn+2(kx) ~ min{ Fxn, Xn+!(X), Fxn+h Xn+2 (x)}- El2n+l for n = 1, 2,... and so for positie integers n, p Fxn+l Xn+lkx) ~ min{ Fxn, Xn+I(X), Fxn+!. Xn+2 (x!kl)}- e/2n+l. Letting p ~=.we get Fxn+h Xn+2(kx) ~ Fxn. Xn+I(X)- e/2 20 + 1 Since E is arbitrary making E ~ 0 we obtain Fxn+l Xn+2(kx) ~ Fx0, Xn+!(X). Therefore by Lemma 1, {xn} is a Cauchy sequence. So it conerges to a point z e X. Now by (1.1) with a.= 1, we hae F X2n+2 Sz (kx) ~ FSz, T X2n+I(kx) ~min {Fz, X2n+I(x), F z, Sz(x), F X2n+l TX2n+I(x), F z, TX2n+I(X), F X2n+h Sz(x)} ~ min{fz, X2n+I(x), Fz, Sz(x), FX2n+!. X2n+2(X), Fz, X2n+2(x), F X2n+h Sz(x)}. Letting n ~=.we obtain Fz, Sz (kx) ~ min{1, Fz, Sz(x), 1, 1, Fz, Sz(x)}. This gies F z, Sz (kx) ~ F z, Sz(x), which is a contradiction. Thus we hae z e Sz. Similarly we can proe that z e Tz. REFERENCES [1] Bylka C.: Fixed point theorems of Matkowski on probabilistic metric spaces, Demonstratio Math. 29(1) (1996), 158-164. [2] Cho Y. J., Murthy P.
