Intrductin Article 4, para 4 f the Safety Directive (2004/49/EG amended by 2008/110/EC) stipulates the respnsibility f each manufacturer, maintenance supplier, wagn keeper, service prvider and prcurement entity t ensure that rlling stck, installatins, accessries and equipment and services supplied by them cmply with the requirements and the cnditins fr use specified, s that they can be safely put int peratin by the railway undertaking and/r infrastructure manager. Real life wagn markings ften d nt crrespnd with the relevant prvisins in place and wagns are subsequently marked incrrectly 1. T mitigate this issue the updated TSI WAG Applicatin Guide will cntain clear descriptins n hw vehicles shuld be marked crrectly. The Applicatin Guide will be further develped in the ERA Wrking Grup TSI WAG limited revisin 2015 and released in the secnd half f 2016. Because f the imprtance and urgency f this issue ERFA, UIC and UIP decided t already draft guidelines n crrect wagn markings. These Guidelines are addressed t Wagn Keepers and ECMs and shuld facilitate the crrect applicatin f wagn marking prvisins in frce. These guidelines are slely applicable t wagns which were authrised fr placing int service accrding the prvisins laid dwn in the TSI WAG ( ld r new ). 2. Recmmendatin The three assciatins recmmend that each Wagn Keeper / ECM based n these guidelines and the relevant prvisins in place assesses the markings f each f its wagn and a) as sn as pssible crrect wagn markings which are cntradictry and/r may result in safety critical situatins during peratin; b) until the end f 2020 crrect thse markings nt in line with the valid prvisins but nt resulting in ptential misinterpretatin by the perating Railway Undertaking and/r nt resulting in ptential safety critical situatins; namely the marking TEN-RIV shuld be replaced. 1 Chapter 4 cntains sme examples Page 1/ 7 Wagn Markings

Examples f incrrect wagn markings The fllwing examples shw incrrect wagn markings and explanatins hw t crrect them: 1. 33 TEN xx 6985 000 0 with additinal marking G2 The cmbinatin f the markings TEN with 3 as 1 st digit and G2 gauge is wrng, because 3 as 1 st digit indicates that the cmplete Appendix C f the new TSI WAG is fulfilled. Hwever, G2 gauge is nt in line with Appendix C because its pint C.6 requires G1 gauge. Therefre The first digit f the EVN shuld be 8 The TEN marking culd be right, but accrding t EN 15877-1, clause 4.5.2 instead f G2 the wagn shuld be marked with GC n the left side (key 1 in the EN) and G2 n the right side (key 2 in the EN) 2. 37 TEN-RIV xx 7830 000 0 with additinal G1 marking Depending whether the authrisatin fr putting int service this car was granted accrding the ld r new TSI WAG the crrect marking shuld be either TEN and G1 ( ld TSI WAG) r TEN GE and G1 if authrised accrding new TSI WAG and if appendix C f this TSI WAG is cmpletely fulfilled. The marking TEN-RIV is nt allwed since 1 st f January 2011 - see TSI OPE decisin 2012/757/EU, Annex I, Appendix P, clause 2: The keeper can add, in letters f larger size than the Eurpean Vehicle Number, an wn number marking (cnsisting generally f digits f the serial number supplemented by alphabetical cding) useful in peratins. The place where the wn number is marked is left t the chice f the keeper; hwever it must always be pssible t distinguish easily the Eurpean Vehicle Number frm the keeper s wn number marking.. It is strngly recmmended t replace TEN- RIV by TEN and the marking GE, as prvided fr by article 3 f decisin 2015/924 (TSI WAG amendment). 3. 09 xx 7833 001-0 with the GE marking but withut TEN The first digit 0 is nly allwed fr 2-axles wagns which fulfil the TSI clauses 4, 5 and 6, the clause 7.1.2 and Appendix C.
