Intro Port Regular p ort Vintage is a new approach on Port, my previous typeface, an experimental Didone typeface with a modern twist from 2013, inspired in the well known forms of typography masters such as Bodoni and Didot and the exuberance and elegance of calligraphy typefaces. A lot of changes were made, the whole typeface is now softer and less rough, it's almost like it has matured and gained a whole new kind of flavour, not necessarily better than the original one but different, a new flavour for a different need, giving away the rough edges from Port and giving place to the soft transitions and curved connections between the steam and serif of Port Vintage. My objective with Port Vintage was to melt the straight lines and strong contrasts of the Didone typefaces with the elegant lines of calligraphy in a geometric way, which can be counter intuitive since calligraphy is, by nature, very organic, but that's something I wanted to change so I started designing swashes around geometric forms and straight lines, resulting in some exuberant characters. The result of this experiment is Port Vintage, an unique display typeface meant to be used on big sizes and it's main perk is how flexible it is, this family is Open-Type programmed and includes thousands of alternative characters with each character having a thin version of itself, giving complete freedom to all your creative needs. Port Vintage family members include various styles: Port Regular, being the base version and meant to be used on big sizes, Port Regular Decorated, containing ornamentated and more extravagant characters, Port Medium and Port Medium Regular, designed for the occasions you need more thickness and the decoration variants: Port Ornaments, containing a wide set of elements meant for the creation of fillets, vignettes and fleurons, resulting in an almost infinite number of possible combinations to embellish your designs and Port Words, a set of some of the most common words used in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. 2 3

Port Vintage Ornaments p ort Vintage Ornaments characters are disposed through the keyboard rows, each row represents a different kind of vignette or fillet, for example, the row from 1 to 0 is translated into fillets, the rows from q to p and a to l are translated into the middle section elements of the taller vignettes, the row from z to m is translated into the left part of the taller vignettes, in order to place the right end of the vignettes you must activate the Swashes. By activating the Swashes and Stylistic Alternates you will get other kinds of elements like smaller vignettes, alternate fillets and other decorative elements. 114 115
