INDEPENDENT ACTIVITIES Written by: Joseph Lockavitch, Ed.D. The failure free Reading Program Teal Level Going to the Mall Story: Eating at the Mall Printed in the United States of America 2007 JFL Enterprises 140 Cabarrus Ave., West Concord, NC 28025 1-800-542-2170 IAT0407

Introduction to Activities Packet The student Independent Activity Packet was created to give severely reading disabled students something they have never had an opportunity to work independently with age appropriate materials. This activity packet is arranged according to student stories. Each story contains a set number of student lessons. Each lesson comes with eight different exercises. The first four exercises: Words, Phrases, Alphabetical Order and Scrambled Sentences promote word recognition, reading comprehension, and writing. The second four exercises: Matching, Word Illustrations, Sentence Illustrations and Word Search promote reading recognition, reading comprehension and higher order thinking skills. The number and type of activities used are left to the discretion of the teaching professional. Our Criterion Reference Tests with the accompanying Student Record Sheets gives the teaching professional an opportunity to measure and monitor student progress. The Criterion Reference Tests measure student growth in Oral Reading, Silent Reading and Word Recognition. 2
