1 Introduction The importnce of discrete soliton equtions hs een recognized in mny fields such s mthemtics, physics nd engineering, owing to the enormous development of computer science. Quite recently, two new types of discretiztion hve een proposed. One of these is to unequlize lttice intervls [1], which we cll deutonomiztion in this pper. This ide comes from Newton s interpoltion formul [2] nd now mny pplictions in numericl computtion such s in the ρ-lgorithm nd in dptive numericl integrtion re expected. Another type of discretiztion is to discretize dependent s well s independent vriles, known s ultr-discretiztion. One of the most importnt ultr-discrete soliton systems is the so-clled soliton cellulr utomton or SCA for short [3, 4]. In recent ppers [5, 6], generl method to otin the SCA from discrete soliton equtions ws proposed. This procedure hs een pplied to other soliton equtions [7] s well. The im of this pper is to study deutonomized version of the two-dimensionl(2d) Tod lttice eqution nd its ultr-discrete nlogue, which is considered s deutonomized version of the 2D Todtype SCA [7]. In section 2, we review the result y Hirot et l. on the 2D Tod lttice eqution [8] nd derive its deutonomized version. In section 3, we present n ultr-discrete nlogue of the deutonomized 2D Tod lttice eqution, soliton solutions for which re lso discussed. Concluding remrks re given in section 4. 2 Deutonomiztion of the 2D Tod lttice eqution We strt with discrete nlogue of the 2D Tod lttice eqution in iliner form [8], ( + l m τ(l,m,n))τ(l,m,n) ( + l τ(l,m,n)) m τ(l,m,n) = τ(l,m 1,n+1)τ(l +1,m,n 1) τ(l+1,m 1,n)τ(l,m,n), l,m,n Z, (1) where + l nd m stnd for difference opertors defined y + l τ = τ(l +1,m,n) τ(l,m,n) δ Rewriting eq. (1) y using eq. (2), we otin, mτ = τ(l,m,n) τ(l,m 1,n). (2) ǫ (1 δǫ)τ(l +1,m 1,n)τ(l,m,n) τ(l +1,m,n)τ(l,m 1,n) +δǫτ(l,m 1,n+1)τ(l +1,m,n 1) = 0, (3) which possesses prticulr solution expressed s [8] τ(l,m,n) = f (1) (l,m,n) f (1) (l,m,n+1) f (1) (l,m,n+n 1) f (2) (l,m,n) f (2) (l,m,n+1) f (2) (l,m,n+n 1)... f (N) (l,m,n) f (N) (l,m,n+1) f (N) (l,m,n+n 1). (4) In eq. (4) ech entry f (i) (l,m,n) (i = 1,2,,N) stisfies the following dispersion reltions; { + l f(i) (l,m,n) = f (i) (l,m,n+1), m f(i) (l,m,n) = f (i) (l,m,n 1). (5) 1
When we tke f (i) (l,m,n) = p n i (1+δp i ) l (1+ǫp 1 i ) m +q n i (1+δq i ) l (1+ǫq 1 i ) m (6) s solution for eq. (5), the τ-function (4) gives n N-soliton solution. As opposed to the utonomous eq. (1), where there is constnt lttice intervl in ech direction, we now present deutonomized version, where lttice intervl etween neighoring lttice points cn e chosen freely. Let us replce f (i) (l,m,n) in eq. (6) y (1+δ p i ) f (i) (l t,m,n) = p n i (1+ǫ p 1 i ) +qi n (1+δ q i ) (1+ǫ q 1 i ), (7) δ t = l t+1 l t, ǫ = m +1 m, t, Z, (8) where the products represent, for exmple, (1+δ p i ) = (1+δ p i ) t 1, =0 1 t = 0, 1 (1+δ p i ) 1 t 1. =t (9) Then the following dispersion reltions hold; + l t f (i) (l t,m,n) f(i) (l t+1,m,n) f (i) (l t,m,n) δ t m f (i) (l t,m,n) f(i) (l t,m,n) f (i) (l t,m,n) ǫ = f (i) (l t,m,n+1), = f (i) (l t,m,n 1). (10) By using the Plücker identity for determinnts, we see tht the τ-function given y f (1) (l t,m,n) f (1) (l t,m,n+1) f (1) (l t,m,n+n 1) f (2) (l t,m,n) f (2) (l t,m,n+1) f (2) (l t,m,n+n 1) τ(l t,m,n) =, (11)... f (N) (l t,m,n) f (N) (l t,m,n+1) f (N) (l t,m,n+n 1) with ech f (i) solution of eq. (10), stisfies iliner eqution, or equivlently, ( + l t m τ(l t,m,n))τ(l t,m,n) + l t τ(l t,m,n) m τ(l t,m,n) = τ(l t,m,n+1)τ(l t+1,m,n 1) τ(l t+1,m,n)τ(l t,m,n), (12) (1 δ t ǫ )τ(l t+1,m,n)τ(l t,m,n) τ(l t+1,m,n)τ(l t,m,n) +δ t ǫ τ(l t,m,n+1)τ(l t+1,m,n 1) = 0, (13) which is considered s deutonomized 2D Tod lttice eqution (in the sense explined ove). 2
It is interesting to note tht when we replce f (i) (l,m,n) y f (i) (l t,m,n k ) = k 1 c (η c p i ) (1+δ p i ) (1+ǫ p 1 i ) (1+δ q i ) (η c q i ) c (1+ǫ q 1 i ) k 1 +, (14) η c = n c+1 n c, (15) we cn construct new iliner eqution deutonomized with respect to ll independent vriles. However, it reduce to eq. (12) y simple dependent vrile trnsformtion. 3 Ultr-discretiztion of the deutonomized 2D Tod lttice eqution In this section, we present n ultr-discrete nlogue of the deutonomized Tod lttice eq. (13) nd we construct its soliton solutions. Let us denote τ(l t,m,n) s τ t,,n for simplicity. Eqution (13) is rewritten s (1 δ t ǫ )τ t+1,,n τ t,+1,n τ t+1,+1,n τ t,,n +δ t ǫ τ t,,n+1 τ t+1,+1,n 1 = 0. (16) When we introduce the new dependent vrile S t,,n s eq. (16) is equivlent to τ t,,n = exp[s t,,n ], (17) (1 δ t ǫ )+δ t ǫ exp [ e n ( + n + t )( + n + )S t,,n] = exp[ + t + S t,,n], (18) Let us define difference opertor y + t = e t 1, + = e 1, + n = e n 1. (19) = e n ( + n + t )( + n + ) (20) for convenience ske. Tking logrithm nd operting on oth sides of eq. (18), we hve [ log(1 δ t ǫ )+ log 1+ δ ] tǫ exp( S t,,n ) = + t 1 δ t ǫ + S t,,n. (21) We finlly tke n ultr-discrete limit of eq. (21). Setting we otin S t,,n = vε t,,n, δ t = e θt/ε, ǫ = e σ/ε (θ t,σ Z 0 ), (22) ε + t + v t,,n = e n ( + n + t )( + n + )F(v t,,n θ t σ ), (23) F(x) = mx(0,x) (24) in the limit ε +0. We hve rewritten lim ε +0 vε t,,n s v t,,n. Eqution (23) is considered s n ultrdiscrete nlogue of the deutonomized 2D Tod lttice eqution. 3
Next, we discuss soliton solutions for eq. (23). It is nturl to consider tht soliton solutions for eq. (23) re otined y n ultr-discretiztion of those for eq. (12). First of ll, one-soliton solution for eq. (12) is given y τ t,,n = 1+η 1, (25) ) n η 1 = α 1 ( p1 q 1 Introducing new prmeters nd vrile s nd tking the limit ε +0, we otin 1+δ p 1 1+δ q 1 1+ǫ q 1 1 1+ǫ p 1 1. (26) e P1/ε = p 1, e Q1/ε = q 1, e A1/ε = α 1, (27) e θt/ε = δ t, e σ/ε = ǫ, (28) ρ ε t,,n = εlogτ t,,n (29) lim ε +0 ρε t,,n ρ t,,n = mx(0,k 1 ) (30) K 1 = A 1 +n(p 1 Q 1 )+ {F(P 1 θ ) F(Q 1 θ )} = + {F( Q 1 σ ) F( P 1 σ )}, (31) =0 A one-soliton solution for eq. (23) is given y t 1, 0 t = 0, 1 t 1. =t v t,,n = ρ t+1,+1,n 1 +ρ t,,n+1 ρ t+1,,n ρ t,+1,n (33) = mx(0,k 1 P 1 +Q 1 +F(P 1 θ t ) F(Q 1 θ t ) F( P 1 σ )+F( Q 1 σ )) +mx(0,k 1 +P 1 Q 1 ) mx(0,k 1 +F(P 1 θ t ) F(Q 1 θ t )) mx(0,k 1 F( P 1 σ )+F( Q 1 σ )). (34) Secondly, we construct two-soliton solution. Eqution (12) dmits two-soliton solution, τ t,,n = 1+η 1 +η 2 +θ 12 η 1 η 2, (35) ) n η i = α i ( pi q i 1+δ p i 1+δ q i 1+ǫ q 1 i 1+ǫ p 1 i (32) (i = 1,2), (36) θ 12 = (p 2 p 1 )(q 1 q 2 ) (q 1 p 2 )(q 2 p 1 ). (37) In order to tke n ultr-discrete limit for the ove solution, we suppose without loss of generlity tht the inequlity, 0 < p 1 < p 2 < q 2 < q 1 (38) 4
holds. Introducing new prmeters nd vrile s nd tking the limit of smll ε, we otin e Pi/ε = p i, e Qi/ε = q i, e Ai/ε = α i (i = 1,2, P 1 < P 2 < Q 2 < Q 1 ), (39) ρ ε t,,n = εlogτ t,,n (40) lim ε +0 ρε t,,n ρ t,,n = mx(0,k 1,K 2,K 1 +K 2 +P 2 Q 2 ), (41) K i = A i +n(p i Q i )+ {F(P i θ ) F(Q i θ )} + {F( Q i σ ) F( P i σ )} (i = 1,2). (42) Finlly, n N-soliton solution cn lso e constructed, under the ssumption tht the inequlity, holds. Through the sme limiting procedure, we hve N ρ t,,n = mx µ i K i + 0 < p 1 < p 2 < < p N < q N < < q 2 < q 1 (43) µ=0,1 i=1 1 i<i N µ i µ i (P i Q i ), (44) where mx is the mximiztion over ll possile comintions of µ 1 = 0,1, µ 2 = 0,1,, µ N = 0,1. µ=0,1 Since the ounded nd uniform convergenceof the dependent vrile ρ ε t,,n s ε +0 is the cornerstone of the ultr-discretiztion, it should e cler tht eq. (44), which is the ultr-discretiztion of the N- soliton solution for the discrete 2D Tod lttice eqution, is n N-soliton solution for the ultr-discrete eqution. We show one- nd two-soliton solutions for eq. (23) with σ,θ t constnt in Figures 1,3 nd with σ,θ t chosen rndomly in Figures 2,4. It should e noted tht the solutions with σ,θ t constnt re equivlent to those discussed in [7]. We see tht ritrriness of σ nd θ t ffects the vlues of the dependent vrile v n,t,. 5

4 Concluding Remrks We hve presented deutonomized 2D Tod lttice eqution nd its ultr-discrete nlogue. We hve lso found soliton solutions for the ltter cse. The deutonomiztion resulting in eq. Deutonomiztion nd ultr-discretiztion of discrete soliton equtions re expected to find more pplictions in the field of computer science such s convergence ccelertion, interpoltion nd sorting lgorithms.
