Appendix E: Management Strategy Support (Task 5.3.3) E.3 Ohio Trip Report Trip Report for Ohio Project for Hess I went to Ohio on Sept. 13 th to meet with Hess and pull water samples from five wells. The project was to attempt a characterization of their produced water and look at the possibilities for a future project involving the treatment of water for reuse. This first step was to determine the criteria and results required for this step. The following are the water characteristics that Hess was interested in determining: Parameters Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) ph Yes Alkalinity Organic acids Cations: - Barium (Ba) - Boron (B) - Calcium (Ca) - Iron (Fe) - Potassium (K) - Magnesium (Mg) - Phosphorous (P) - Sodium (Na) - Strontium (Sr) Anions: - Bicarbonate (HCO3) Yes - Chlorides (Cl) - Sulfate (SO4) Bacteria undiluted and 10-1: - Acid producing bacteria Yes - Heterotrophic aerobic bacteria Yes - Bacteria slime formation Yes - Sulfate reducing bacteria Yes - Iron related bacteria Yes BTEX Oil & Grease Total Suspended Solids Analyze in Field? Analytical Method

Our water analysis was to be conducted by Test America which we have used in the past in Pennsylvania on a field trial. We began with the first well and drew almost all of our water and then realized that the water line was severely contaminated with condensate. Approximately 40% of our sample was condensate. We did not have a spare sample set to replace so kept these samples with the intent to see if we could make them work. The sampling involved 19 bottle samples from 40 ml to a liter in volume. After sampling at the second well after the Hess personnel spilled water from the flow line we determined to draw the water from the separator. This was the method for the next two wells. The last well did not have a sampling point on the separator and we returned to the flow line on the battery. We concluded with the last well at approximately 6PM and I hand carried the samples to Canton that night for transfer to Test America. This ended up being much longer than originally planned. I did not return to the hotel until 10PM. NOTES on Sites and Hess Operation All of the locations were similar to sites we have operated on in the past. All production facilities are enclosed by a 10-12 fence with barb wire but space is available. I asked to photograph the site and was told that it was against Hess policy. Safety is extremely important and they ran a safety survey on the transport driver at the first site. On arrival at the second they ran the survey on me and I had two deficiencies. First Hess policy is to require FR shirt sleeve to be rolled down and buttons. I complied. Second my safety glasses did not have side shields. I had a spare set, non prescription and used those for the remaining wells to be tested. On possibility of taking samples using a tank thief was proposed by Hess but the requirement for hazmat suits and respirators on the tank batteries ruled that method out. The results of the tests are in this section with the full report from Test America in the Appendix. The only results not included in this report are the bacteria reports for Sulphate Reducing bacteria (SRO) which will not be completed until the 15 th. One bacteria result for the Warren Bell A is not included and those results are being traced by Test America. They will be added when received.
