CS SOLUTIONS C C CC Solution : Solution is a mixture of two or more non-reacting ure substances in which comosition may be altered within certain limits. There are two tyes of solution. They are : Homogeneous solution Heterogeneous solution HOMOGENEOUS SOLUTIONS : In homogeneous solutions, the comonents are comletely miscible with each other i.e, they are single hase solution. In this case, the comonents of the solution will lose their individuality and, therefore, they cannot be searated by filtration, setting or centrifugal action. HETEROGENEOUS SOLUTION : In heterogeneous solutions, the comonents are not miscible i.e., they are multile hase solutions. The comonents of these mixture can be easily searated through filtration, settling or centrifugal action. Tyes of solution : Deending uon the hysical state of solvent and solute, there are nine tye of solutions. C Vaour ressures : The ressure exerted by the vaours of a liquid which are in equilibrium with it at a given temerature. log H va T T.33R TT C Vaour ressure of solution containing volatile or non-volatile solute : The vaour ressure of a solution deends uon the nature of the solute i.e., whether it is volatile or not. Case I : When the solute is non-volatile (Lowering in vaour ressure) Raoult s Law : It is stated as, if the solute is non-volatile, then the vaour ressure of the solution is directly roortional to the mole fraction of the solvent, at a given temerature. ssume n and n are the number of solvent and solute in a given solution. For non-volatile solutes : = X is the artial ressure of solvent and is the vaour ressure of ure solvent having mole fraction X s the solute is non-volatile thus total ressure of solution and artial ressure of solvent are same. = X... is the total ressure of solution, n n n, m M solvent Case II : When the solution is volatile Raoult s Law : It is stated as, t a given temerature, for a solution of volatile liquids, the artial vaour ressure of each comonent is directly roortional to their mole fraction.
