JUNE 2018 WHAT S HAPPENING IN CUPAR? Date: Saturday, June 9 th Time: 9:00 m to 6:00 pm No fees or registrations! Just put up some balloons to advertise your sale! And while you are out and about shopping, come by the Cupar Volunteer Fire Department Grand Opening at their new building at 606 Assiniboia Ave. There they will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks for sale. While you are there, you can see The equipment they will have on display and they will be on site so you can ask them about their recent and on going fundraising they have been doing. Applications will also be onsite if you are interested in joining the fire department. DON T MISS OUT!! A blonde farmer calls the rural fire department one day. She says, "Come quick! My barn is on fire, my barn is on fire!" The dispatcher says, "Calm down. Now just tell us how to get there." The blonde says, "Oh, don't you have that big red truck anymore?" 1

May 13 was our Quilt Dedication Day, when we displayed the 9 blankets we made this winter, in which 8 will be donated to 2 Regina Lutheran churches for their fall clothing giveaways, and one will be given to Camp Lutherland for its silent auction fundraiser in the fall. Many thanks to all who donated, sewed, ironed, pinned, tied and organized. Hope to see you back next January, and more are welcomed! S T. CUPAR PUBLIC LIBRARY Thank you to all who supported us for our 50th anniversary on April 20th! Forty-seven people came to hear congratulatory messages, eat delicious food, reminisce with past pictures and former town members, and received a souvenir pen! Thank you to all board members for their work! We are not resting on our laurels this spring/summer...we have exciting things planned. June 1st @ 6 pm is our Spanish tapas night and there is limited seating. Cost is $15 and you must contact the library or Silvia for tickets. The next international dinner night will be in the fall. June 9th is the Community Garage Sale. We will be selling our black folding chairs at a cost of $5 each (as we are replacing them with better, steadier chairs), as well as having a used book sale and miscellaneous table. We will be open from 9-12. Come in that morning and check us out. Kids Summer Reading Program starts in June also. Kids aged 3-16 are welcome to register in person to receive a free activity/logbook to record the books you have read (esp from the library), and then return the logbook between Aug 15-24 to receive a $5 gift certificate from High Plains Restaurant. Then, the evening of Aug 24, we are planning a Family Movie Night under the Stars which will feature a family-friendly movie in the Legion Park at dusk. Bring your family and blankets (no pets please). We will be selling pop and popcorn. In case of bad weather, then we will move it indoors. The Legion Hall will be open for bathroom services. There is no cost for the event (only for the snacks). Movie to be decided. We have ordered 17 health-related books from the Maddin grant grief, PTSD, trauma, and other issues. Yes, our library was vandalized but not destroyed. We have some bookcases to fix. Thank you to Marj Paidel for helping us with this! We also look forward to the beautiful flower planter displays that the Vera Rakai family will do for us thank you!! Parents of newborns are welcome to come and receive a baby book gift from us. Library cards are free to anyone over age 5. There is a computer for public use that is free. Our hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:30-5; phone 306-723-4749 or email cupar@parkland.lib.sk.ca or like us on Facebook Cupar Library, Saskatchewan.
