Urashima Taro Long, long ago there lived a kind and romantic fisherman called "Urashima Taro". One day, when he took a walk along the beach, he saved a turtle which had been being tormented by the village children. When several days had passed, he was fishing as usual. Then the turtle he had helped came to him from the sea. "Mr. Fisherman. I am the turtle saved by you the other day. My princess told me to bring you to the Dragon Palace(Ryugujo) to thank you." said the turtle. It took him on the back to the Dragon Palace under the sea. It was a very wonderful palace where there were much beautiful coral all over the sea and many fish swimming. What is better, he met a beautiful princess(otohime). He had never seen such a beautiful lady before. "Mr.Urashima, please enjoy yourself here as long as you wish." said the princess. He forgot the passing of time. The life there seemed to him a dream. After several years he remembered his old village and his old mother. It was time he had to come home. Parting with him, the princess gave him a little box as a souvenir. "Mr. Urashima, this is a magic box called "Tamate-bako". When you are in trouble, you can open it." When he came home on the turtle back again, he could not find his house and his old mother and he found his village had changed completely. e was at a loss what to do. At last he opened the little box out of curiosity. When he opened it, a white smoke came out of it and he suddenly became an old man with long white beard. While he was having a happy time under the sea, hundreds of years had passed on the earth. He was not sure where he was now and whether it was a dream or not.( My Garden(JA) I walk in my garden. I see many flowers, many plants, many ants. The ants are working, working on the trees, working on the ground, I walk in my garden. I see many leaves, many trees, many bees. The bees are flying, flying to the pansies, flying to the daisies, My garden is beautiful. l like it very much.

JB The Smart Mother(4) Once there was a mother mouse with many baby mice. She often said to her baby mice, " The world is very dangerous. Many animals don't like us. You must be very careful. " One fine day the mother mouse said to her baby mice, "Let's go for a walk. But you must always stay with me." The mother mouse and her baby mice went for a walk. Suddenly a big black cat ran up to them. The big black cat looked down at the little mother mouse and said, " Meow!!!" The mother mouse looked up at the cat and cried, "Bowwow!!!" The cat ran away. Then the mother mouse turned to all her baby mice and said, " You see? You must study a foreign language. It's very useful." The Lion and the Mouse The lion was sleeping in his den one day. Suddenly a mouse ran over the lion's nose and woke him up. "Who is disturbing my nap?" the lion said angrily. "You little mouse! I will eat you up!" "Oh, I'm very sorry, Mr. Lion," the mouse said. "I know you are very strong. Please forgive me! Please!" "All right," said the lion. "I don't want to fight with such a little mouse. You may go." The mouse was very happy because he was safe. A few days later, the same lion fell into a trap set by hunters. "Help! Help!" cried the lion. "Can anyone hear me? I'm trapped, and I can't get away!" Just then the mouse appeared. "Oh, hello, Mr. Lion," he said. "You saved me before, so this time I will help you." The mouse cut the net with his sharp teeth. Soon the lion became free. From that time the lion and the mouse were always good friends. P4 The Travelers and the Bear Two men were traveling together in the country. "We're good friends," one of them said, "so let's always help each Other. " Yes, let's," the other man answered. "We will stand by each other in any danger." When they were walking in the woods, they suddenly met a big bear. One of the travelers hastily climbed up a nearby tree and hid himself among the leaves. The other man wanted to climb up the tree, too, but the bear was too close to him. He did not know what to do, so he lay down on the ground. The bear came up to him and sniffed at him. The man tried to keep still and held his breath. The bear thought he was dead, and soon went away. After a while, the man in the tree came down and said to the other, "Did the bear say anything to you?" "Yes, he did," answered the other man. "The bear said, 'Don't travel with a man who runs away in time of danger.'"

P3 George Washington and His Hatchet When George Washington was a little boy, his father gave him a bright new hatchet. George wanted to cut things with it. He ran into the garden, and there he saw a small cherry tree. "It will be fun to cut down the tree," he thought. He began to cut it with his hatchet. The tree was very small. It didn't take long to cut it down. Soon after that, his father came home. He saw the fallen cherry tree and was shocked. It was his favorite tree. "Who cut down my fine cherry tree?" he cried. "I loved it very much.!" He was very angry and came into the house. "Someone cut down my fine cherry tree. I will punish the one who did it," he said. Little George came right to his father. "Father!" he said. "I will tell you the truth. I cut down the tree with my hatchet. I am very sorry." His father was very surprised, but soon he forgot his anger. "George," he said, taking the little boy in his arms. "I am very glad that you told me the truth. You are an honest boy. I am proud of you!" As you know, George Washington became the first President of the United States of America. Give me liberty or give me death (75) Patrick Henry was a very powerful speaker. He was one of the most powerful speakers in America. He was born on May 29th, 1736. He studied law and became a lawyer in 1760. He is especially famous for the speech which he gave in Virginia in 1775. In that famous speech he spoke in this way: "We have done everything that we could do in order to promote peace and at the same time to keep our liberty. We have asked the King for help. We have begged the King for help. We have done everything that we could, but it has been useless. Now we must fight for our rights and for our liberty! There are some people who cry 'Peace! Peace!'. But there is no peace. The battle has already begun. Our brothers in Boston have already begun to fight. There are some people who say, ' Slavery is better than battle.' But who wants to live as a slave? I say, ' Give me liberty or give me death!"

He started to look for some food. On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry. On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry. On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry. On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry. On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry. On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of water melon. On Sunday, now he wasn't a little, hungry catapillar any more. He was a big, fat caterpillar. He built a small cocoon house. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he pushed to make his way out and... now he was a beautiful butterfly!
