PRECIPITATION Based on the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), Office of the Maryland State the statewide total October precipitation was 3.88 inches, which was 1.01 inches less than last month, 0.07 inches more than in October 2017, and Climatologist 0.47 inchs more than the 1981-2010 average, making it the 38th wettest October in the 124-year period of record. It was the wettest October since 2013 (Table 1). Above-average precipitation was observed in the western (Figure 1). The greatest monthly precipitation accumulation was 9.78 Department of Atmospheric inches, recorded at Fruitland 1.8 ENE. The greatest 24-hour precipitation was 7.35 inches, recorded at Fruitland 1.8 ENE in Wicomico County on and Oceanic Science October 12. Based on historical records, statewide October precipitation showed a slight decrease in precipitation since 1895 of 0.08 inches per 4254 Stadium Dr, College decade. The highest and lowest October precipitation for the state ranged from 8.07 inches in 1976 to 0.15 inch in 1963 (Figure 2). TEMPERATURE Figure 3: average temperature departure from normal for Maryland. (NRCC) The official state average October temperature was 58.9 F, 18.3 F warmer than last month and 2.2 F cooler than in October 2017, but 2.6 F warmer than the 1981-2010 average, making it the 110th coolest October in the 124-year period of record (tied with 1959, 1975). It was the warmest October since 2017 (Table 2). Above average temperatures were observed across the state (Figure 3). The state s highest and lowest daily temperatures ranged from 92 F on October 4th at the Patuxent River NAS, to 24 F on October 26th at Oakland 1 SE. Based on the historical records, the state average October temperature showed a positive long-term trend of 0.1 F per decade since 1895. The highest and lowest monthly state October average temperatures ranged from 50.1 F in 1895 to 63.3 F in 2007 (Figure 4).

Storm Reports: The NOAA Storm Prediction Center s Storm Report reported a total of only one significant storm event in October. Table 3 summarizes the number of tornado (0), hail (0) and damaging wind (1) reports in October, while Figure 6 geographically displays the locations of these storm reports.
