There are also hotels at Lake Tahoe but they are a 40-minute drive from the office and may involve driving through snow from Oct - Apr. See notes under Car Rentals (on page 6) for further information. 2. Casinos are legal in Nevada. The hotels listed above are not shared with casino properties. Combination casino / hotel properties in the Minden area are not recommended for accommodations. 3. Combination casino / hotel properties in the South Lake Tahoe areas are nicer, but they are a 30-minute drive from the office and may involve driving through snow from Oct - Apr. See notes under Car Rentals (on page 6) for further information. 4. Closest towns for lodging in Lake Tahoe area are: - Stateline, Nevada - South Lake Tahoe, California - Zephyr Cove, Nevada. Other towns around the periphery of Lake Tahoe (Incline Village, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Camp Richardson, Tahoma, Crystal Bay, etc.) are more than one hour from the office and not recommended due to driving times and road conditions during winter months.

FLIGHT INFORMATION Reno-Tahoe International Airport is serviced by the following carriers: United, American, Delta, Alaska, Southwest, Allegiant, Frontier, JetBlue, and Volaris. Regional partner airlines include Skywest and Horizon. For travelers from our office in Darmstadt: United / Lufthansa generally offers the best options between Reno and Frankfurt requiring only one stop (via SFO, LAX, SEA, ORD, or DEN) and travel times of around 16 hours. For the return trip to FRA, there are both early morning (6AM) and mid-day (13:00) departures allowing a half day in the Minden office. American Airlines / British Airways is another FRA-RNO option requiring only one stop (via DFW), but it has more limited itineraries / options. For the return trip, it has only early morning (6AM) departures; travelers should stay in Reno the night before departure. Alaska / Condor is another option requiring only one stop (via SEA), but does not offer jet service between RNO and SEA. All other options require two or more stops and travel times exceed 20 hours TIME ZONES Minden, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Reno and Seattle are in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8) Denver is in the Mountain Time Zone (GMT-7) Dallas and Chicago are in the Central Time Zone (GMT-6) New York, Atlanta, Miami are in the Eastern Time Zone (GMT-5)

AIRPORT INFORMATION The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is the most convenient location for arrivals and departures. It is 70 km from the Minden office and driving time is approximately 50 minutes. Other less convenient airports include: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a 5-hour drive from Minden and can involve very heavy traffic Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is a 3-hour drive from Minden and can involve moderately heavy traffic San Jose International Airport (SJC) is a 5-hour drive from Minden and can involve very heavy traffic Oakland International Airport (OAK) is a 5-hour drive from Minden and can involve very heavy traffic Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) is a 12-hour drive from Minden and is at the extreme southern tip of the Nevada PRO TIP If you have an early morning flight departure, consider staying in Reno the night before your flight instead of Minden, Genoa, Carson City, or Lake Tahoe. This is especially important if staying at Lake Tahoe as driving time from the Lake to the airport can exceed 2 hours, particularly in bad weather. Hotels near the Reno airport and with airport shuttle service include: Hyatt Place 0.5 km www.booking.com/share-w4vxo8 Courtyard 6 km www.booking.com/share-vfyco5 Peppermill Casino 3 km www.peppermillreno.com Atlantis Casino 4 km www.booking.com/share-swsf5r Holiday Inn Express 2 km www.booking.com/share-hzj4jp

CAR RENTALS It is generally not practical to visit Minden and rely only on taxi / Uber; car rental is strongly suggested instead. Taxis would be more expensive than a rental in almost all instances unless visiting for only 1-2 days and relying on co-workers for transportation. Nearest hotels to office are 6+ km away and located in Minden (6km), Genoa (10km), or Carson City (15 km). Reno is located 70 km from the office; driving time is about 50 minutes; driving time from office to hotels is in Hotel section (on page 2) above. If staying in South Lake Tahoe area (35-45 km), be aware that the roads between Minden (elevation 1440 meters) and Lake Tahoe (elevation 1900 meters) are winding mountain passes that traverse a 2235 meter summit and frequently involves snow and inclement weather that can occur anytime from Oct - Apr. A 4-wheel drive vehicle rental is strongly advised because weather conditions can be unpredictable. 2-wheel drive vehicles can be denied passage over the mountain roads in these conditions unless tire chains are carried or installed. 4WD or AWD vehicles do not have such restrictions. Tire chains or snow tires are rarely required in the Carson Valley (Minden / Gardnerville), Eagle Valley (Carson City), and Truckee Meadows (Reno) due to the elevation and the effect of the surrounding mountains to keep snow and rain from reaching the valley areas. A 2-wheel drive vehicle is thus adequate. WEATHER / CLIMATE Nevada is part of the Great Basin and features a semi-arid climate. Many consider it high desert, but because of its close proximity to Lake Tahoe, the mountains are forested, and the valleys usually green and well-watered. Images of barren landscape with tumbleweed and cactus are more consistent with Las Vegas, at the extreme southern tip of the state. Weather can vary greatly: snow has been known to occur in every month of the year. Check the local forecast before packing your clothes. Winters are moderate with heavy snowfall in the mountains, but very little in the Carson Valley (only 7 inches per year of rain/snow). The area s water needs come from the snowpack in the surrounding mountains. The high elevation of the Carson Valley means that even when daytime temperatures are above 30C, there will usually be a 25C drop overnight and it can be chilly average overnight temperatures are below 10C. Winds can be very high and gusty at times, exceeding 130 km/hr during storms (yes, you read that correctly). This is due to the weather patterns that form over the Sierra Nevada mountains and how they gust into the Valley.
