What is the meaning of this year s User Conference theme: GIS Inspiring What's Next? GIS continues to evolve. It is playing an increasingly large role in the digital transformation of society. At this year s User Conference, we will share what s going on now with respect to technology and its applications and also explore how GIS will enable and inspire what s next. Clearly, the advances in GIS are helping users do their work better but they are also helping organizations understand and communicate in whole new ways. They are helping break down organizational barriers and facilitate new forms of collaboration around shared geographic information. Today, there are outstanding implementation examples across dozens of domains around the world, where the new web GIS pattern is growing rapidly and making a difference across organizations. The technical barriers have continued to fall with more data available as services; software easier to use, install, and maintain; hardware increasingly powerful and flexible; and a growing number of people with strong technical knowledge pushing the capabilities of the platform. "GIS Inspiring What s Next Today, the fast pace of GIS advancement makes it challenging for individuals and organizations to keep up with what s possible. The conference will provide many opportunities to share, learn, and better prepare for creating what s coming next. Among the trends and transformations that the event tracks: The services-based GIS platform makes many new opportunities possible. The web and mobile patterns are extending the reach and providing whole new application possibilities. Smart mapping and story maps are opening up the world to map based storytelling. New spatial/temporal analytics tools are inspiring organizations to create new understanding. What s Next encompasses personal development, organizational advancement, and the impact that GIS has on our planet. Full ready-to-deploy solutions are emerging for citizen engagement, planning, situation awareness, security, etc. These solutions allow users to more rapidly realize business value in their organizations. These advancements in turn help Esri engineers and developers to advance the ArcGIS platform. The evolution of GIS capabilities are inspiring new levels of GIS integration. Page 03

MicroCenter s Expansion in 3D Laser Scanning-LiDar, 3D modelling and Building Information Model-BIM The MicroCenter Special Project is now offering integrated solutions and services on High Definition Surveying, 3D Mapping and Reality Capture, 3D Modelling, Building Information Model - BIM, as well as the integration of 3D data, Models, and BIM across the Esri ArcGIS Platform. MicroCenter is now equipped with the latest 3D Laser scanning system from FARO, which is one of the precise and rapid technology to perform surveying and mapping of any visible entity in 1/30 th of the time than the conventional surveying technique and with the accuracy of +/- 2-3 mm or better. MicroCenter provides services on Topographic Mapping, Digital Terrain Modelling, Planimetric Detailing, As-built Generation, Asset Mapping, 3D Modelling, and BIM. Our BIM services offerings are on two platforms: Laser Scan to BIM and 2D drawing to BIM. MicroCenter Team with Faro Delegates Additionally, MicroCenter team is now well trained in integrating LiDar, Modelling and BIM data with Enterprise ArcGIS environment. This integration will help users with a better interoperability between models and GIS, and will allow interactive viewing of 3D project & geodatabase in the ArcGIS Engine application, including dynamic symbolization of features. The user can thus inspect and interact with the 3D data in the real-world environment.. MicroCenter is further equipped with the Ground Penetrating Radar - GPR, which is one of the prominent technique to detect underground utilities up to the depth of 7 meters below the ground and perform its mapping. 3D laser scanning has become essential for everyone and across a variety of sectors and industries, this majorly includes, spatial data infrastructure entities-ministry & Government, Architecture & Urban Planners, Urban designers, Engineers, Consultants & Contractors, Construction, Civil & Survey, Infrastructure & Utilities, Airports, Oil & Gas, Plant & Industries, Ship Building & Restoration, Heritage, Facility management, Transportation, Bridge, Ports, Rail-Road, Environment, Hospital Construction, etc. Kindly get in touch with us to know more on this innovative 3D laser scanning technology and end-to-end solutions and services that we offer. 4 Reasons to Consider GIS as a Career Choosing a college major is often a difficult decision, so it is important to weigh certain components of your future career. Discovering what interests you and what also makes you a decent wage are two aspects that are crucial in your decision. However, if you love to work with technology, interpret data, and explore maps, then making a choice is easier than you think. Here are a few reasons to consider a career in GIS (geographic information systems). 1. CHANCE TO EXPLORE THE GREAT OUTDOORS Because surveying is the main tool for gathering GIS information, a substantial amount of the work is done outside. For those of you that are avid lovers of the outdoors, GIS allows you to complete work out in the field, rather than sitting behind a desk for hours on end. The possibilities are seemingly endless. 2. POTENTIAL JOB PROSPECTS After acquiring a GIS certificate, a door opens that enables you to choose a variety of career options. Most people who obtain a certificate in the field opt to become a GIS technician whose duty is to make maps on computers by compiling and manipulating data. However, it is not the only career path. Other people with this degree choose jobs in surveying, cartography, and drafting. 3. COMPETITIVE SALARIES IN A GROWING FIELD Salaries and job growth in GIS continue to expand as the federal government and private companies pour more money into their information systems technology. For a typical GIS professional, annual salaries range from BHD 15,120 to BHD 21,168 a year depending on the specific job title. However, those that choose to obtain a master s degree often bump their average pay up to an average of BHD 28,260, according the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Job growth is also a perk of GIS graduates as rates are anywhere from 10 percent to 29 percent, which is faster than the national average for all other occupations. The majority of these jobs are also government-funded, meaning benefits such as insurance and pension are at a premium. 4. MAKE A DIFFERENCE The data accumulated and mapped by GIS professionals have an array of uses inside and outside of the actual GIS world. Many companies integrate this information into everyday tasks. If a company wants to map the wind patterns of a particular area to determine where to build a wind farm, you re the person for the job. If a company wants to complete a GPS map for a new area or a foreign country, you re the one that travels there and compiles the data. No matter what job you are doing, you are making a difference to consumers and changing the future. Considering GIS as a career is something that takes time and a careful thought process. Page 10
