Science: study of man s surroundings, searches for reasons things happen Follows the scientific method (O,Q,H,E,C,R) Theology: study of religion based on Gods, faith, and searching for man s purpose on Earth In the beginning there was no difference, priests used religion to explain man s environment This lead to MANY false teachings, because man was trying make science fit into their religion

Christianity teaches that man was created in God s image, and that humans were very close to God Therefore early scientist suggested that because of our closeness with God, that Earth was the center of the universe This is wrong, Galileo was the first scientist to challenge the church.

Galileo hypothesized that the sun was the center of the universe, (HELIOCENTRIC UNIVERSE) which is correct, but it went against present religious teachings Galileo was put under house arrest for the rest of his life

This question has troubled humans since the beginning of science Religion teaches that a god created us (different religions still have the same belief) Science believes that random acts caused the formation of the universe This has been & still is the fundamental argument between the church & science

Answer: God does not adhere to the scientific method You cannot observe God, therefore you cannot prove or disprove is existence Scientifically, If you cannot prove something it theoretically does not exist

Theory that life follows a certain order and rules, that may or may not have been laid out by a higher power Not the same as creationism (basically the Story of Genesis) Evidence: all living things have a certain way of acting and appearing, and that these could not be a coincidence DNA has helped A LOT, because all living things share the same genetic code

Secular: opposite of spiritual or faith-based Primordial Soup Model Bubble Model Based on the Big Bang Theory

That the universe has no order only chaos, and from random acts the universe was created The universe was created sometime around 13.7 billion years ago from a cosmic explosion that hurled matter in all directions.

1929 Edwin Hubble found distant galaxies in every direction are going away from us with speeds proportional to their distance

Very little to NO oxygen B/C there is no oxygen, there is no Ozone Layer There is more radiation There is no precipitation There are no continents, just own huge land mass: PANGAEA LOTS of volcanoes, electrical storms, and seismic activity

Refers to the earth s oceans as SOUP Earths atmosphere was full of nitrogen, hydrogen gas, water vapor, ammonia, & methane (all are byproducts of volcanic activity) These molecules when exposed to LOTS of radiation and electricity (lightning) could create simple amino acids Miller & Urey set up these same conditions and were able to create amino acids

Recent experiments have shown that without an ozone layer, that solar radiation would destroy ammonia and methane Without these two compounds, the model does not create amino acids

Underwater volcanoes erupt, and the byproducts are trapped in bubbles Bubbles protect the compounds from the solar radiation When the bubbles reach the surface the amino acids are released into the atmosphere

The earth and galaxies are created first Life begins simply, and increases with complexity over time (bacteria, fungi, plants, animals, humans, etc) Humans are the most complex Mass extinctions over time BIG DIFFERENCE: Who or What started it all & timeline Secular: 4billion YAG Intelligent design: 6,000-40,000 YAG
