2017 SEG Microseismic Workshop: Technologies & Applications Microseismic events are generally associated with release of energy from rock fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing in unconventional and tight oil/gas reservoirs often generates a large number of microseismic events, which can be used to monitor the fracturing process and guide the completion optimization. Meanwhile, microseismic monitoring technology is also playing an increasingly important role in understanding the local stress change in mining, tunnel excavation, waste water disposal, reservoir impoundment, CO2 sequestration and monitoring active earthquake faults for safety reasons. Still, there are a lot of challenges to face in microseismic monitoring technologies and practical applications. This workshop aims to facilitate the communications on latest developments in microseismic technologies and applications, to encourage sharing of microseismic knowledge and to promote applications of microseismic monitoring in various fields. This workshop will be held from 4-6 June, 2017 in Westin hotel at Hefei. This announcement is aimed to call for abstract and make in-depth discussions among worldwide experts on following subjects: 1 Microseismic data acquisition and signal processing 2 Velocity model updating, anisotropy and its impact 3 Microseismic locations and uncertainties 4 Source mechanisms and geomechanics 5 Microseismic monitoring in unconventional reservoirs 6 Microseismic monitoring in soil and hard rock mechanic applications 7 Microseismic monitoring for natural earthquakes and active faults 8 Induced seismicity due to fluid extraction and injection Abstracts Format & Submission The abstract should be no more than four pages and should strictly comply with the SEG standard Expanded Abstract Template. The abstract should be written in English and submitted in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format. The submission deadline is 10 April 2017 (U.S Central Standard Time) and all abstracts will be submitted to SEG China (china@seg.org). Meeting Schedule 4 June, 2017: Onsite Registration 5 June, 2017: Opening Ceremony and Technical Sessions 6 June, 2017: Technical Sessions and Closing Ceremony Workshop Format: This event will be comprised by oral and poster sessions for accepted abstracts. Meanwhile the small-scale exhibition and sponsorship are still available for enterprises. The Best Abstract or Presentation will be selected in each technical session and awarded to the authors in the Closing Ceremony.
