First law of thermodynamics energy can change from one state to another but it can never be destroyed, nor can new energy be made (the total amount of energy in the universe remains constant) 2. In chemical reactions, chemical bonds break and reform and atoms become rearranged into new molecules (same atoms that you begin with you end with, just rearranged) 4.
