First year affiliated to Operational Department, Meteorological Applications and concerned with operational suite modifications and problem solving. Worked especially on enhancements and extensions of archiving and retrievals. In Data Assimilation Section from 1/11 1982 and from 1/7 1987 as a Senior Scientist. 1/2 1990 promoted to Principal Scientist in the section. Acting Section head from 1992-93, Section Head 1994-97. Development and tests and modifications of schemes in the data assimilation system. Building up and coding a completely new analysis system at ECMWF within a team of 3-4 persons. Various enhancements of the new analysis system. Development, testing and introduction of divergent structure functions in the analysis. Modifications and tests of data assimilation with 31-level model and finite elements in the vertical. Use of significant level data with the 31-level assimilation. Variational experiments and defining and constructing observation formats for variational analysis. Studies of tropical stratospheric wind problems in the data assimilation and experimentation.
