This issue includes photos of gesneriads from the African Violet Society of America and the African Violet Society of Canada convention show and information about a new webinar. Hope you enjoy Gleanings! Mel Grice, Editor The Best Other Gesneriad in Show at the African Violet Society of America and the African Violet Society of Canada convention was a gorgeous specimen of Columnea microphylla in full bloom entered by Beverley Williams. She says it must have prolonged cool temperature to stimulate blossoms (around 55 degrees). http://gesneriadsociety.org/ June 2018 page 1

African Violet Society of America and African Violet Society of Canada Convention Show Photos of Gesneriads Primulina medica Mel Grice photo Paul Kroll grew this plant to twenty-four inches across with the help of an African violet support ring attached to its pot to keep the leaves from breaking. This plant had "resting buds" form nearly a year before they actually grew and began to open. This plant was grown in the center of a shelf with two T8 bulbs overhead. http://gesneriadsociety.org/ June 2018 page 2

The Marvelous World Of Columneas Jay Sespico is an outstanding grower of columneas, and to say he s got a little understanding about columneas is a huge understatement. He graciously shares his considerable expertise on growing these beauties in this latest Gesneriad Society webinar. The webinar premieres on June 12 at 7:00 p.m. ET, when you will receive your link. Join us and see wonderful examples of columneas. Learn a little of their history and, most importantly, how you can grow them in your home. After seeing this session, you will be inspired to grow some of these marvelous plants. Click here to order your webinar now!
