EAAA Meeting Agenda May 4, 2012 - Room 1775 PROGRAM: IHMC Program: Exploiting the asteroids.... the gold rush in space has begun. Introduction by Wayne Wooten. MEETING The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm by Ed MaGowan. There were no guest students. Dewey's friend, Wayne, introduced himself. REPORTS Awards (Wayne Wooten) There were no awards to present this month. Amateur Astronomer Levels (Dewey Barker) Dewey encouraged members to keep track of their earned points. Treasurer Report (Jim Larduskey) Checking $1,560.14; Savings $5,258.60; Cash $540.06; Total $7,358.80 Shirts and Hats (Dave Halupowski) Dave has EAAA shirts and hats for sale. International Dark Skies Report (Dave Halupowski) No dark sky report for this month. Approval of Last Month's Minutes Last month's minutes were approved. OLD BUSINESS STAR GAZE REPORTS 04/12/2012 Pine Meadow Elementary School Gaze (Dewey Barker) There were about 120+ attending the gaze. Wayne Travis, John Arnold and a potential member named Kenny helped with the gaze. 04/13/2012 Helen Caro Elementary School Gaze (Dewey Barker) There were about 120+ attending the gaze. Wayne Travis, John Arnold and Lyen McAbee helped with the gaze.

04/18-21/2012 Mid-South Star Gaze at French Camp (Dave Halupowski) Dave had both a report and photographs to share for the Mid-South gaze. 04/20/2012 Fort Pickens / Battery Worth Gaze (Dewey Barker) Rick brought his refractor scope and got some great images of Saturn. 04/27-28/2012 Pensacola Beach Sidewalk Gaze (Ed MaGowan) It was a good night for gazing. Relay for Life and several students were there. Good gazing for Saturn and Mars including the polar cap. Other Gazes Dennis Hausch attended several gazes and will provide reports. There were 16 scopes set up at a Blue Water Bay gaze. Other Old Business Dave Haluposwki reported on the Munsen Field clean-up done by Dave and a crew of 2 from Niceville. He indicated parts of the horizon have trees but that there is a lot of dark sky that can be enjoyed. The combination to the chain on the fence can be provided to members who need to remember to lock up when they leave. NEW BUSINESS STAR GAZE CALENDAR (attached) ANNOUNCEMENTS Warren Jarvis has a black, surplus motor (120v) that turns at 60rpm that might be of interest for some member's project. If interested, see Warren. Navy Federal is a good star gaze site (little light polution) if you shield the tops of buildings. Dewey mentioned a possible gaze to be added to the schedule for July 15. A cardboard solar scope was handed around for member inspection. It had seen use at the Festival on the Green and has a good view of the sun and sun spots. Rick shared some fine astrophotographs prior to the evening's program. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned about 8:00pm.

More later. 2012-05-11 2012-05-12 is backup date Girl Scouts Camp Kugleman East Condon Street and Co Rd 99 in Lillian, AL 30.401482,-87.44862 2012-05-11 Glenn Grumen will be having a school gaze at Navarre Beach (not on a school site) More later. 2012-05-18 Fort Pickens at the Battery Worth Area star gaze sunset to 10:00pm (P) 2012-05-25 Pensacola Beach sidewalk gaze sunset to 10:00pm (P) 2012-06-01 EAAA Meeting The June program will be on the Venus transit of the sun. Old transits, photographs, this transit. Public involvement might be possible with attendance (possibly) in the auditorium. Mars and Saturn will be out and the moon will be almost full.
