AP Human Geography Summer Assignment Mr. Shaffner

Transcription:

Part of the Pre AP goal is to have a deeper understanding of the impact of physical and political locations on each other. This project is designed to ensure that you have a strong foundation of the locations on the world in order to be successful in this year. This assignment will be due the first day of classes and will count as a major test grade. Do not procrastinate! The summer will go by much faster than you think. If you have any questions on your project, you can email me at ssterling@vidorisd.org. It may take a day or two for me to get back with you. Also, make sure that your work is your own. Copying or plagiarism will not be tolerated. I look forward to seeing you in class and hope you enjoy studying the world around you. Part 1: Each of the maps has a specific theme that must be followed. Make sure you create a key for any colors or symbols that you use on the map. Only hand labeled and colored maps will be acceptable (to ensure original work). Please ensure that your work is neat and legible (it can t be graded if it can t be read). Part 2: In Pre AP World Geography we will be reading scholarly documents and doing in depth analysis of those articles. To help prepare you for the rigor of this, you are to find 3 articles on events happening outside of the U.S. and analyze the article. The article must come from an accurate, reliable source (major news networks, government sources, university research). For each article, you must fill out the analysis worksheet and attach a copy of the article to the back of the page. Geographic Themes 1.Location - Where people and places are on the Earth s surface. 2.Place - The human and physical characteristics of a location. 3.Region - Area of Earth s surface with similar characteristics. 4.Movement - How people, products, information and ideas move from place to place, and what happens as a result. 5.Human-Environment Interaction How people adapt to the environment or modify it to suit their needs. Sample Article Form Location Article Source and Information Title: Name of the article Author:Name of the journalist or researcher Source:Which news, government, or university source Date:When was the article written Theme:Which geographic theme does the article come under Shade in the area on the map where the story takes place
