FIG AP CDN Events in 2018 Future collaboration and co-operation with UN GGIM AP at upcoming events - Manila, Philippines (?) - Geodetic Data and Infrastructure for Disaster or Emergency Response Management, and Environmental Geo-Hazards Monitoring, early to mid 2018 Nadi, Fiji (?) - Pacific Geospatial Survey Council Meeting; GIS / RS Users Conference late 2018 Deqing, China (?) - UN GGIM AP Plenary Meeting ; Capacity Building Workshop 19-21 November 2018

Achievements Identified the geospatial information trends and challenges / capacity development needs Establishment of an operational network of geospatial and surveying professionals Assisted with the creation of a 10 year Strategic Plan to position the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) for future. Facilitated capacity development initiatives for the Asia Pacific Reference Frame (APREF) in conjunction with the UN GGIM AP Working Group 1 Reference Frames. Provided an advocacy role to Asia and the Pacific geospatial industry through workshops, technical and professional advice, a website, and active attendance to meetings or events in the regions. Maintained and enhanced the profile of the FIG in Asia and the Pacific.

The Challenges Connectivity Justification of budget, resources Advocacy of the value (benefits) of geospatial information Capacity Development training, education, specialist Establishment / Maintenance Geospatial infrastructure Technical, Organisational, Data, People, Standards? Regulation and Standards Connecting to ITRF / APREF Balancing the PRIORITIES?

The Key Successful Partnerships! Different organisations who represent a diverse group of members BUT we work collaboratively and co-operatively towards a common mission and vision. Our roles, our members, and our objectives are strategically aligned to ensure our finite resources are used wisely.

The Future Asia Pacific Region Capacity Development Plan Consolidate our network to consider TO WHAT END do we need to develop our capacity? What will be its purpose? Drivers social, economic, political? WHOSE capacities need to be developed? Which groups or individuals need to be empowered? Local / Regional? Collaboration is the KEY! Our geospatial future is in our hands WHAT KINDS of capacities need to be developed to achieve the broader development objectives? Technical & Nontechnical?
