Do First: Answer the following 3 questions in your DFAD Skip #1 in our DFAD I will only be grading #2 and #3 from your Do First today.
Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast of plants and in green algae (plantlike protists). The food (glucose) produced in photosynthesis is released for use through cellular respiration. In eukaryotes, cellular respiration takes place in the mitochondria. (which is in both animals and plants Process Reactants Products Energy Involved solar energy Photosynthesis carbon dioxide, glucose, (sunlight) water, sunlight oxygen chemical energy (glucose) Cellular Respiration glucose, oxygen carbon dioxide, water, ATP chemical energy (glucose) chemical energy (ATP)
Plants have three types of tissues: Vascular tissue transports water and dissolved substances throughout the plant and is similar to the veins in animals that carry blood throughout the organism. Two types of vascular tissue are xylem and phloem. Protective tissue covers the plant. Ground tissue contains cells that carry out photosynthesis.
Roots anchor and support the plant, absorb water and dissolved nutrients from the soil, and store food and water. Stems provide support and transport materials between a plant s roots and its leaves and flowers. Leaves are the main organs that carry out photosynthesis. Many leaves have openings called stomata (singular: stoma) on their undersides that exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen between the plant and air. Water may also enter and exit a leaf through the stomata. Guard cells close and open the stomata. Transpiration is the evaporation of water through stomata in plant leaves.
Plant Reproduction Pollen (plant sperm) moves from the anther to the sticky stigma. A pollen tube forms down the style until it reaches the ovule inside the ovary. There the pollen fertilizes the egg. A tropism is a plant s growth in a certain direction in response to a certain stimulus. Phototropism: Plants grow toward light. Cells on a plant have a hormone called auxin that cause the plant to have elongate cells, so it can stretch to get more light. Geotropism: Growth in response to gravity. Hydrotropism: Growth in response to water. Thigmotropism: Response to touch or physical contact.
At this time, reach inside of your backpack, get out the review packet we worked on yesterday. It is titled New Schedule for Unit 7.

Group Practice Review the questions answered during Independent practice. Go over each question. Each table member should explain why they selected their answer. Work must be done at a level ONE volume, which means I should not be able to hear you from my desk. Remain in your seat and only talk to people at your table. Make sure to keep conversations on topic. If you have a question or request raise a silent hand and be patient. For group practice, today we will be working for 10 minutes.
Independent Practice Answer questions all question starting at Independent Practice Work must be done silently and independently. No Talking. If you have a question or request raise a silent hand and be patient. For independent practice, today we will be working silently and independently for 6 minutes.
