Mediatin Card #1 Check-list f a cnscius viewer I m nt in a rush. I m nt thinking abut my plans after visiting the museum. I m nt thinking abut what happened tday, prblems at wrk, hme, etc. Yes, I can spend at least five minutes in frnt f ne artwrk. I walk arund the artwrk, if it s spatial. I describe what I see (shape, clurs, materials, bjects, cmpsitin). I lk fr any symblic r icngraphic implicatins, any visual references t histry, media, film, literature, etc. I lk at ther artwrks in the space and try t find cnnectins between them.
I read the label next t the artwrk and see if the title, the date f making r materials help me better understand it. On the way back I usually check at least ne f the artwrks that I have seen nline. Cntemprary art is ften shwn in a gallery r museum, in a space that lks like a white cube minimalist and clean. Nthing distracts visitrs frm lking at the artwrks, r in ther wrds, artwrks are islated frm any cntext except the cntext f ther artwrks. Yu can experience this at the Helmhaus r the Löwenbräukunst. But what happens if yu discver an artwrk in a plice statin, a church, a htel, a hspital, a schl, a bank r a fire statin? D yu think that the envirnment can change yur perceptin f art? The artwrks in Manifesta 11 are all presented in different ways bth in the white cube f the Helmhaus r the Löwenbräukunst, and in satellites arund the city (www.manifesta11.rg/map). Mediatin Card #6 Wake up yur bdy and mind! Walking arund an exhibitin tends nt t invlve much actual walking, but a lt f standing and pndering. A lt f stress n muscles + active use f mental energy = duble fatigue. Nic Aeschimann, athlete and managing directr f Irnman Switzerland, gives yu three tips hw t stay awake in a gallery space and absrb mre artwrks! NECK Make sure that the artwrk is at eye level straight in frnt f yu. Bend yur head slwly frm left t right and stretch ut yur left arm. Bend yur head until yu feel a slight tensin in yur neck and hld the psitin fr 5 secnds. Repeat the exercise n the ther side. Slwly repeat the mvements 5 times n each side. TRUNK Stand firmly with yur feet abut a shulder width apart. Stretch yur arms straight abve yur head and hld yur hands tgether. Bend yur upper bdy slwly t ne side until yu feel a slight tensin alng the side f yur bdy. Hld the psitin fr 5 secnds and then change sides slwly. Repeat this 5 times n each side.
LUNGES When yu g t the next bject try t walk in lunges. Stand upright, feet tgether, and take a cntrlled step frward with yur right leg, lwering yur hips tward the flr by bending bth knees t frm 90-degree angles. Press yur right heel int the grund, and push ff with yur left ft t bring yur left leg frward, stepping int a cntrlled lunge n the ther side. Keep ging! Irnman rganises different series f lng-distance triathln races all ver the wrld. It is widely cnsidered ne f the mst difficult ne-day sprting events glbally.
