UGC Sponsored NATIONAL SEMINAR ON RECENT DEVELOPMENTS in GREEN CHEMISTRY (RDGC-2015) Organized by DEPARTMENT of CHEMISTRY GUSHKARA MAHAVIDYALAYA GUSHKARA, BURDWAN, 713 128 In Collaboration with Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya Burdwan - 713 103 Date: 22.03.2015, Sunday Venue: S. N. BOSE HALL GUSHKARA MAHAVIDYALAYA GUSHKARA, BURDWAN - 713128

Our College: Gushkara, situated at a distance of 135 km. from Kolkata, is a sprawling Municipal Town in the northern part of Burdwan Sadar Sub-Division. To the north of Gushkara lies Santiniketan where poet Rabindra Nath Tagore spent most of his creative years. The district town of Burdwan (30 Km) is to the south of Gushkara which is flanked on the east by Bhatar and Mongalkote and on the west by Jangalmahal. Kunur the major tributary of the river Ajay flows through the town. Gushkara is now an important railway station in the Burdwan Sahibgunj loop line. History beckons, Gushkara Mahavidyalaya is a fifty years young. This is a metaphor for commitment, care and service, and this momentous hour of the history of our college makes our ambition and aspiration for future. We are proud of the progress of Gushkara Mahavidyalaya of today - a precious seed has prospered into a vital, virtuous tree. The college is evolving into a nationally ranked, multifaceted and co-educational institution. We believe that Gushkara Mahavidyalaya can remain faithful to its heritage and extend its intent to meet the intellectual and spiritual challenges of the contemporary and future academic world. Our Alumni occupy distinguished positions in almost all spheres of activity both in the country as well as abroad. It has been a long journey through the fifty years and yet the journey has perhaps just begun. Until the end of time, the College wants to create an intellectual environment that will enhance individual growth, support scholarly activities and creative endeavors to facilitate expansion of human knowledge and understanding. Since its inception, Gushkara Mahavidyalaya is approved by UGC and affiliated to the University of Burdwan. The college offers undergraduate course in Arts, Science and Commerce. At present there is provision for learning sixteen subjects out of which fourteen are at the Honors level and the rest are at the level of General Course.

The National Seminar: A one-day National Seminar on RECENT DEVELOPMENTS in GREEN CHEMISTRY is organized by the Department of Chemistry, Gushkara Mahavidyalaya on 22 nd March, 2015, Sunday. The Seminar is solely funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Faculty Members representing premier educational institutions from different parts of Bengal will address this Seminar. Participants may present their papers in the form of (a) Oral Presentation and (b) Poster Presentation. There will be a competition in these two modes of paper presentations. Objectives and Scope of the Seminar: This conference aims to provide a platform for deliberations on importance and advances in various branches of green chemistry in regard to application based research. The meeting will be a multidisciplinary gathering and present major areas such as green synthesis, catalysis, education and policies. The forum of scientists, researchers and students from all over India, come together to discuss different aspects of green chemistry. This is believed to be the key to provide new materials and sustainable technologies to meet the ever growing needs of the society in energy, food and health sectors. The objective of this seminar is to bring together the students and researchers in academics, research institutions and industries for knowledge sharing and exchange of ideas about current status and future directions in various fields of chemical sciences. The conference will include keynote address, invited lectures, by eminent scientists and contributed research articles in the following, but not limited to, areas of chemistry: Bioorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry Organic and Inorganic Syntheses Catalysis Novel Materials and Devices Synthesis and Application of Macromolecules Solid State Chemistry Environmental Chemistry Spectroscopy and Analytical Chemistry
