SOLAR ARC DIRECTIONS - by Julija Simas April 2018 WWW.COSMICINTELLIGENCEAGENCY.COM julija@cosmicintelligenceagency.com 2
Advancing the Horoscope! Natal Chart, frozen in time! Celestial snapshot! Natal chart shows individual s inherent makeup, potentiality and what will unfold through life! Various techniques are applied to see where and how the chart keeps unfolding, evolving, opening! Main techniques used are Transits Returns - Lunar, Solar, Planetary Progressions - primary, secondary Solar Arc directions Time lord techniques - Fidaria, zodiacal releasing etc 3
What are Progressions and Directions?! Transits - actual movements of planetary positions! Progressions and Directions - are symbolic timeframes of reference, moving natal planets and angles using a particular assigned rate of motion, from a symbolic ratio! Progressions - use actual orbital motions e.g. everything moves according to how it does in the sky, yet set to a different timeframe All planets move at a different rate, - Moon Fast 12.5 per day, Sun constant 1 per day,(+/-) Pluto slowest 2 per year, retrogrades (backward through zodiac)! Solar Arc directions - everything is moved as an apparent motion. Everything is moved at the rate of the Sun - 4
Secondary progressions! A Day for a Year! One day after Birth = 1 Year after birth! Second day after birth = second year of life! 10 days after Birth = 10th year after birth! 50 days after birth = 50th year after birth! etc etc! Day = Year! One rotation of Earth = One day One rotation of Earth around Sun = One Year 5
Secondary and Tertiary Progressions! Tertiary progressions is the Lunar month(moon through zodiac) = one day! Secondary Progressions = Day(Sun through zodiac) =Year! Therefore Tertiary progressions will be faster that Secondary progressions! Tertiary being more advanced specific than secondary, not many use it!! Moon travels 12.5 per Day = Sun travels 1 per day! Everything moves as it would by normal motion, transit, Moon 12.5 per day,! Sun moves 57 minutes of arc per day in Cancer and 61 minutes of arc in Capricorn! Average is 60 minutes of arc = 1 6
Primary and Solar Arc directions! Primary Directions - one degree along equator one year of life, this movement is added to each planet all planets advance 1! Solar Arc Directions - True movement of the Sun! One year of life = movement of Sun per day! All planets advance like the Sun,! All Planets and angles are moved at rate of Sun - varying 57 to 61! Solar Arc Sun always same as Progressed Sun, moving at same rate! Sun moves 57 minutes of arc per day in Cancer and 61 minutes of arc in Capricorn! Combinations of both used to greatest effect 7
! Progressions - Moon and faster moving planets move and make aspects in natal charts. Saturn-Pluto hardly move in lifetime, if do - significance! Better for looking at phase of life.! Solar Arcs, all planets make aspects, and retain natal aspects as they move change signs at a faster rate, better for prediction. e.g. if you were born with Merc con Sun, Solar Arc will always have Merc conj Sun, yet they will make new aspects to natal chart as they move! Combinations of both are used to greatest effect, to define phases of life and particular shifts in directions 8

History Ptolemy first looked at Primary Directions, a little different system than Solar Arcs. In more recent history, Alan Leo discusses them in his piece, The Progressed Horoscope.!rimarily a Cosmobiology technique, 20th century, Reinhold Ebertin, who in his book on Directions discusses them, referring back to Alfred Witte s writings as well The Bible - Ebertin quotes from The Bible (Ezekiel) I have appointed thee each day for a year. Says that many different direction theories have been explored, but that the biblical reference substantiates the technique. 10
Solar Arc Directions! Solar arc direction is one of the oldest predictive techniques in astrology.! Solar arc is defined as the difference between the position of the progressed Sun and natal Sun.! This arc is then added to every planet and point in the chart. The arc is approximately equivalent to the individual's age.! However, note that a person born in the Cancer/ will have a solar arc that is somewhat less than their age and, conversely, a Capricorn-born individual's solar arc will be greater than their age.! When a Solar arc directed planet makes an aspect, especially a hard aspect, to a natal planet, some event or transition is likely to occur.! More so the case when there is a transit activating the point as well.! While solar arc is the most common direction used, any planet or point in the chart may be the basis for a direction.! You can have a Venus-arc directed chart, vertex-arc directed, ascendant arc directed, etc.! The Sun- Solar is most widely used because it connects the individual to the other planets. 11
! Note when solar-arc planets enter new houses or signs, and when they make aspects to natal planets.! Around the age of 30 each of the solar-arc planets and other points in the chart make an exact 30-degree aspect to its own position at birth.! Around age 45 all the solar-arc planets are in a 45-degree aspect to their own natal position.! Around age 60 they're in a 60-degree aspect, etc.! People born in the winter-north, summer south when the Sun moves about 61 minutes of arc per day, reach these points a little before these ages.! People born in the summer-north, winter-south when the Sun moves about 57 minutes per day, reach them a bit after these ages, with the difference getting greater as they grow older. 12
! First main aspect of Solar arc, is the semisextile, at 30 years OLd comes a year or two after your Saturn return, a major transit in everyone's life when people are challenged to define who they will be as an adult. Also comes just after the trine of transiting Uranus to its natal position, which marks a break with the past and an occasion to define one's own individuality.! The 30-degree solar arc aspect] is not particularly stressful, it does stimulate awareness of who you are becoming."! These moments that occur around age 30, 45, 60 and 90 are given to everyone as occasions for pausing to reflect on the chart that they were born with, and what they have done with it thus far. 13

Calculations Solar Arc Directions Easiest way to calculate Solar Arc: Subtract the position of the Sun on the birthday from the position of the Sun on the directed date Example and using the time of the birth of the person: Directed date is July 26 and the Sun is at 3 Leo 16 26. Birth date is July 1 and the Sun is at 9 Cancer 25 25. The distance that the Sun has traveled between the birth date and the day that we are directing our solar arc to.. Is about 22 degrees 51 01. 19
Calculate that about 1-½ year before the exact hit and about 1-½ year after the exact, one starts to feel the effect of a Solar Arc hit to the natal chart. A precise aspect hit includes conjunctions (0º), squares (90º), oppositions (180) or trines (120º) to natal planets or house cusps. Watch for Solar Arc planet or house cusp is at the 29th degree. Watch the house that the Solar Arc planet rules, as well, in that when it shifts to the new sign, that house s energy will also shift. Add progressions and transits for more clarification and timing, prediction 20
