JUPITER ENTERS GEMINI on 31st May when the Moon is in Dhanistha in Aquarius. He leaves for Cancer on 19th June 2014. Jupiter consequently assumes Svarna murti for Aries, Virgo and Aquarius, Rajata murti for Gemini, Libra and Capricorn, Tamra murti for Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius and Loha murti for Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Jupiterian transit into Gemini is good for Taurus, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius and bad for others. Aquarius gets the best murti and transit. [Aswini, Bharani and Krittika 1] The proverbial tritiya Brihaspati (Jupiter in the 3rd) coupled with Svarna murti produces an admixture of good and bad results. The cocktail you receive is nevertheless not without sweet taste. It is true that dislocation, failures in ventures, separation from friends and deadlock in travel plans, do not affect you much. Even if you leave the place it is with some elevation. Ventures, which are beneficial to you, succeed after effort. Friends though separated entertain at least e-links. The amount of agony you are found to suffer is alleviated because of the pleasant milieu you have. Loss of wealth may happen in an unexpected way. You may invest money for construction of a new house or you may make some capital expenditure and the loss is more than counter balanced by the indirect benefits. Proposal for marriage may meet with partial success. What you find is that the groom and the bride like each other and consequently the seniors are silent despite their dissent. Expansion of your organization also takes place though it has to pass through hurdles and you have to satisfy the implacable men bent upon delaying your plans. In July/ August you get a boost. In November, December and January you again find that you circumvent the difficulties and clear the legal problems if any with ease. If there are disputes on properties, you are bound to succeed though things do not rise up to expectations. In profession, there may be some problems, but they will be settled. Your plans regarding travel may be successful with time lag. Health conditions also may not be very good. But you manage the difficulties with ease. On the whole this period of transit can be considered fairly good. Aswini: In the beginning there will be impediments. Thereafter many experiences will be favourable. Impediments vanish. Towards the close problems of health give concern. Bharani: In the beginning things lead to your welfare. Afterwards you face impediments disturbing your progress. Towards the close you become successful. Krittika 1: In the beginning you face disappointment. Thereafter you find some pleasant experiences. Towards the close health poses problem. Remedial Measures: Visit the temple of Siva or Vishnu regularly. Recite Vishnusahasranama. Recite Sundara Kanda of Ramayana or at least 31st Sarga of that. Wear Topaz ring in the ring finger. SRI RAMA IS LOOKED UPON with awe for his exalted charm, and ideal characteristics. We accept him as divine and approach his divinity for our needs, wants, security and happiness. We, human beings run from pillar to post in search of wealth, health, knowledge, money, power, position, name, sex, relationship, skillsets, etc. We pursue these with an illusion of security. Regrettably neither these give us everlasting security. Once we obtain the object of our interest, the mind realizes its futility and limitation. The next instant we begin the search either for more or for something different. Once manifest, in the relative existence our search for that something is on. There is an inherent ignorance, insecurity and void driving everyone of us and we eventually succumb to helplessness, frustration, anxiety, worry, stress, dejection and depression. The intensity of these is reflected at the physical level as disease blood pressure, diabetes, acidity, ulcers. When neglected, these can lead to terminal illness, cancer, attacks, paralysis, aids. Tomorrow may be something new. The trauma of imagined ailments brings on more pain and greater suffering. DR. PRABHAKAR ANANTHASWAMY Prof. Prabhakar Ananthaswamy is currently the Professor and Head of Channabasaveshwara Institute of Technology, Gubbi in the Department of Information Science and Engineering. Teaching for the last 16 years, Prof. Ananthaswamy has an industry experience of ten years in ITI, Satcom 'R & D', Bangalore. Prof. Prabhakar Ananthaswamy has harnessed his technical background to evolve suitable mental filters to eliminate the confusing cacophony of peripheral noises of life and to make audible the inner voice. His book In Quest of Self is a seeker s journey a deeply personal experience slowly unfolding onto that supreme state of being. Our search now is to get solutions for these. Scientists and technologists continuously come out with new solutions to alleviate human suffering. Our saints and seers prescribe meditation, asana and pranayama and satsang wherein our emotions are controlled and finally slip into a non-identification state called Yoga. While technology takes care of our physical needs and puts us in the comfort zone, our seers elevate us to a conflict-free state devoid of all external aids. In this search, as long as things are working fine, we think we are successful and get a feeling that the world is going on because of us. For the successful ones spirituality and God make no sense. But there comes a phase in everyone s life when nothing works- health lets us down and relationships and plans go haywire. No matter how sincere we are, how intelligent we think we are and the more we try, all the avenues close. We lament that nothing ever works and that is when God enters our life- for protection and to fulfill our wants we start praying without knowing who and where this God is. This is when Astrology, Vastu and the respective consultants come into picture. They try to lead the distressed to the ultimate JUNE 2013 25
ABHILASH MULLASSERIL ASTROLOGY PLAYS AN ESSENTIAL and integrative role in the diagnosis of diseases. Jyotisha is an integral part of all the systems of traditional knowledge irrespective of their nature as its field of application is found ranging from astronomy to medical fields (scientific knowledge) and from Astrology to Tantra (Philosophical knowledge). The Sanskrit sloka given below, emphasizes the importance of Jyotisha in ayurvedic diagnosis. Purvamayu: Pareeksheta Pascat Lakshanamadiset / Anayusham Tu Martyanam Lakshanai Kim Prayojanam // There are many dimensions to this popular sloka that conveys different meanings to different readers in minimal words. The astrologer s point of view is well known to the readers as there is no relevance to check the lakshnas for a man who doesn t have sufficient life. They believe that if there is no life strength to the neonate, there is no need to check the lakshanas. If the neonates show sadyomarana lakshanas the treatments have to be found very difficult and only those supported with suitable tantric prayascitta methods could be advisable. This is worthwhile to invite the reader s attention to the ayurvedic definition of drug where the word prayascitta is used. I also invite the reader s attention to correlate the seetharasmiyoga and the reported deaths of neonates scientifically by conducting proper research where you could find many correlations. Similarly sadyorishta and arishta could found important in determining the treatments in pediatrics and much critical research has to be carried out to correlate the results without any prejudices. The ayurvedic point of view of above sited sloka is that there is no need of checking the lakshana symptoms, without knowing the ayu - the astrological life strength of the cikitsa purusha - the patient. Medical astrology methods were well used by the visha vaidyas to the most useful and practical manner in those days. Earlier ayurvedic physicians were also learned astrologers who practiced both the shastras for the benefit of humanity. The father of modern medicine Hippocrates also supported Jyotisha by calling physicians (who did not understand astrology) as fools. Jyothisha gives methods to know the nature of diseases (nija and agantuka). The methods called anganyasa and caracakranyasa were found very useful in determining the prakurti of the cikitsa purusha while deciding the treatments and ayurvedic prescriptions. The body can be assigned into the 12 bhavas starting from the upper head to the bottom of feet. The corresponding organs are governed by the nature of the planets that reside in the corresponding astrological houses. The corresponding rasis also play an important role in determining the nature and shapes of the organs. They also assist in understanding the duration or depth of the diseases or ailments. This method is referred to as caracakranyasa. In horasastra itself the author clearly mentions the different accepted variations of this caracakranyasa according to the drekkanas to this method. The methods known as approximations used in many scientific areas are most comparable with the jyotisha methods. The story of the exchange of knowledge between Nala and Rtuparna clearly supports the applications of such approximation methods. Modern medical sciences also face many difficulties in handling serious situations where they need certain blind courageous steps based on approximations and experiences. The highly learned and open-minded physicians and scientists accept the limitation of the modern medical sciences in handling those situations. There are cases where those situations were successfully handled by practitioners of alternative medicines. Much study has to be carried out in the field of medical astrology and pediatrics including neonatology in a critical manner based. The scientific introduction of medical astrology in the modern curriculum of alternative medicines like Ayurveda is necessary to improve the quality of the young practitioners. This will help them to handle the situations very successfully and fruitfully by choosing the correct prescriptions and scientific methods. This article concludes with the following sloka. Amantram Aksharam Nasti Nastimulam Anoushadham / Ayogya Puruso Nasti Yojaka Tatra Durlabha // Today many universities they already started research in medical. Let our research and curriculum designing be focused on molding such Yojakas and they alone can help to protect our scriptures and knowledge. They alone can interpret the findings scientifically and handle the situations fruitfully for the benefit of mankind. References 1. Charakasamhita 2. Horasara JUNE 2013 27
First column gives the English dates and next to it the names of the regional months and dates. The ending moments of Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana are given in the 24 hour clock extending to 30 hours. Of the Nityayogas, Vishkumbha, Parigha, Vyatipata, Vajra, Vyaghata, Vaidhruthi, Sula, Ganda and Atiganda are generally spurned for auspicious events and they are marked in red in the Panchanga. Vydhruti pervades from 346º40 to 360º and Vyatipata from 213º20 to 226º40 of the sum of the Nirayana longitudes of the Sun and the Moon. Vydhruti and Vyatipata punyakaala are observed on the day when the yogas prevail for 1½ hours or more, when Sraddha is performed by the astute. These two belong to the shannavati -96- Sraddhas ordained for a householder. Considering the astronomical implications, the Sayana Vydhruti and Vyatipata days are also indicated in the Panchanga. The auspicious Amritayoga and Siddhayoga and inauspicious Maranayoga and Prabalarishtayoga come under Amirtaadiyoga scheme and are different from the Nityayogas. The Karana is the half of the Tithi. They are mainly classified as Sthira - fixed or immovable and Chara or moveable. The Chara Karanas are seven in number and the Sthira are only four. The fixed ones are inauspicious. They are Sakuni, Chatushpada, Naga and Kimsatugna. The seven movable Karanas are in their order, Bava, Baalava, Kaulava, Taitila, Gara, Vanija and Vishti (or Bhadra.) Among the movable Karanas Vishti or Bhadra is considered to be of dreadful. The forbidden Karanas are marked in red for easy identification. We have most of our religious observances pegged on to the Tithis. Pournamipooja Chandradarisana, Sankataharachaturthi Vrata, Shastivrata, Ekadasi Vrata and Pradosha are specially mentioned in the Panchanga. Pournamipooja is done in the evenings on days the full Moon is prevalent. Chandradarisana is observed on the evening on the day when the crescent Moon appears for the first time in the west after the Amavasya. Chaturthi of the Krishnapaksha or Bahula Chaturthi of every month is known as Sankataharachaturthi. The evenings of Sukla and Krishna Trayodasi days are specially observed as Pradosha Vrata days.
