Wales Street Primary School Newsletter Date 20/10/2016 Term 4, Number 2 In This Issue Walk to School Spelling Information Evening PYP News Grade 3/4 Building Class Placements - 2017 The yard is supervised before school from 8.45am and after school until 3.45pm. Students must not be dropped off and left alone before 8:45am. Any student in the yard unsupervised before 8.45am will need to go to our school aged care program. An important reminder that any change of address or contact phone numbers needs to be updated with the office. This includes work numbers and emergency contacts. It is very important that the school is able to contact families in the event of an accident or illness. Recess: 10.40am 11.10am Lunch eating time: 12.50pm- 1.00pm Lunchtime: 1.00pm 1.50pm School Finish: 3.30pm Events Walk to School in October Congratulations! Gullotti's Do A 'Billy Elliott' Following four exhaustive months of auditions, interviews and physical examinations, Carys and Sienna Gullotti from 5/6A have been accepted into the Victorian College Of The Arts and the Australian Ballet School. The twins who are also extremely talented in the visual arts, survived an extremely competitive process to make the short list in front of more than 100 applicants. We wish them all the best in what should be an exciting time and a fantastic opportunity in the next phase of their educational journey. THOMAS AND LOCHIE WELL DONE! Congratulations to both Thomas and his younger brother Lochie who have made into the State Athletics Championships. Thomas in 100m and Lochie the 200m. They will compete Mon 24 th October at Lakeside Stadium. Good luck! USING COMPASS TO CONTACT STAFF A reminder to parents that the most efficient and direct way to email staff is via COMPASS. The process involves searching the name of the staff member you would like to email in the search bar and then using the email tab to write your message. Alternatively, if you are not sure of the staff member s name or if you are addressing a concern to the school, then the best channel is via the school email address. However, the school email address is a high traffic portal that takes messages from many sources so for more direct contact, Compass is the better option. Please also make sure that your personal details and email address are current on Compass as staff will often use this way of communicating to families. These details can be

changed /viewed at any time directly on Compass. For more information about our communication processes, please see the Communications and Mechanisms for Communications Policies on our website. FAMILY ENROLMENT INTENTIONS FOR 2017 - REMINDER Apart from Year 6 students, could parents/guardians who currently have children attending Wales Street and are planning to transfer at the end of this year please notify the school office by Friday 14 th October. It is vital that we have accurate information as it greatly influences planning of class numbers and staffing for next year. WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - REMINDER Wales Street P.S is excited to be taking part in VicHealth s Walk to School from 3-28 October. Walk to School encourages primary school students to walk to and from school every day in October to highlight the ways walking improves children s health and wellbeing. Walking to school is a great way to help kids achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Contact Us Ph: (03) 9484 3949 Fax: (03) 9480 5930 wales.street.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au www.walesstps.vic.edu.au We ll be encouraging families and students to walk to and from school as often as possible during October to help students learn healthy habits for life. Teachers will use classroom calendars to record each time students walk, ride or scoot to and from school. VicHealth offers some great prizes to schools with high participation, and runs fun walking themed competitions for students throughout October. We ll be providing parents with an Information sheet for parents and carers with all the information you ll need about Walk to School. You can also visit the Walk to School website for more information: www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au

Not sure how to get started? There are lots of ways families can get involved. You might like to: walk with your child to and from school and enjoy the chance to chat.. connect with other families and friends on your way to school, and share the journey. part way is ok if you live a long distance from school or have limited time, drive part of the way to school and walk the rest. mix it up if your child enjoys riding their bike or scooter, that s great too! Mango Order Forms are due this week We are hoping to sell more than 400 trays of delicious Bowen mangoes this year. Please offer them to your neighbours, work colleagues, family and friends. It is a great fundraiser for the school which is also delicious, healthy and cheap! A great way to start summer. You can share a tray with a friend, though at this price (and the fact that mango cheeks freeze so well) you might prefer to keep them all yourself! Forms are due back to the school office this week. Order forms are available from the office or can be downloaded from the School website
