Back ground TEPSCO member of our group have stayed at 1F site for 1F-5 PPC replacement work at that period 1F-5 unit was just going to start up for commercial operation from April, so SAT of PPC was almost done. We have worked in the site at that day also, and we were caught in an earthquake disaster. 2

Our situation of the day 1. Our working location Unit 5 Control room : 2 person ( Akiyama ) Administration Building : 7 person ( Naito ) Unit 6 Unit 5 To TEPSCO site office Administration Building Unit 1 Unit 2 Unit 3 Unit 4 Inundated Area 13

Time chart of that day Our situation of the day 14:26 Earthquake occur 14:58 The high Tsunami warning was announced from Meteorological Agency 15:37~ Massive tsunami attacked the 1F site (16:30) All our members evacuated to our site office and were able to confirm their safety 17:00~ Went back to each Hotel or home ( We didn t know that power of Unit 1 to 4 were lost ) 14

Our situation of the day Administration Building Very huge rolling happened many times in about 20 min. PCs and monitors on the table fell into the floor Dusts and some piece of ceiling fell from the ceiling Steel fire prevention door was closed by rolling of the earthquake, so we had to force open the door to go out the building 15

Unit 5 control room Our situation of the day Very huge rolling happened many times in about 20 min. Performed automatic SCRAM by earthquake, and operator carried out urgent stop operation Corridor to outside from control room was filled with dusts fell from the ceiling After Tsunami was gone, TEPSCO member went out to site office from control room 16

To Tokyo from refuge Our situation of the day Because gym of the town was appointed as refuge, we spent a night there. Early in the morning, urgent broadcast was announced, so we are divided into several groups and will go to Tokyo. 17

PPC status at those period Most of the power was lost at that day, but external power sources were prepared later. TEPCO asked us to retrieve PPC data ( Both unit 2 and 5 ) to confirm the behavior of that period We have been to 1F site to retrieve PPC data at 25 th April 18

PPC status at the day There was no problem with the appearance of cabinets and servers We started up each servers without any problem, so we could check the server status and logs According to system event logs Unit 2 : Server was stopped at 3/11 15:50 Unit 5 : Server was stopped at 3/12 16:05 19

PPC status at the day After that, we have copied the archive files to external drive, and retrieved those data in development system in Tokyo. Retrieved Data ( 1 seconds frequency) Unit 2 PPC data ~ 3/11 15:50 Unit 5 PPC data ~ 3/12 16:05 20

PPC status at the day PPCs of other plant did not have function to store archive data in their system So it was just our system ( R*Time system ) that was able to provide archive data to TEPCO 21

Current status of our work We are going to provide R*Time system to monitor some plant process parameters from Unit 1 to 4 at administration building This system collects data from YOKOGAWA digital recorders and Web cameras installed at fields 22
