EuroBioBank/TREAT-NMD Annual Meeting 2008 «Membership to the EuroBioBank Network» CLIQUEZ ICI POUR SOUS TITRE Anne-Mary Bodin EuroBioBank Project Assistant Jeanne-Hélène di Donato Consultant, 3 C-R Paris, 5-6 May 2008

Who can join the EuroBioBank network? a BRC/ BioBank (?) Human biological resources collections v Quality assurance Aim to facilitate access to samples With a rare disease thematic Established in Europe

OECD Definition of Biological Resource Centres (BRCs) «Biological Resource Centres are an essential part of the infrastructure underpinning biotechnology. They consist of service providers and repositories of the living cells, genomes of organisms, and information relating to heredity and the functions of biological systems. BRCs contain collections of culturable organisms (e.g. micro-organisms, plant, animal and human cells), replicable parts of these (e.g. genomes, plasmids, viruses, cdnas), viable but not yet culturable organisms cells and tissues, as well as data bases containing molecular, physiological and structural information relevant to these collections and related bioinformatics. BRC must meet the high standards of quality and expertise demanded by the international community of scientists and industry for the delivery of biological information and materials. They must provide access to biological resources on which R&D in the life sciences and the advancement of biotechnology depends.»

Membership section of the EBB website Membership of the EuroBioBank Network Eligibility Benefits of membership Procedure

Membership section of the EBB website 1) Eligibility The EuroBioBank Network welcomes new members! Any private or institutional Biological Resources Centres (BRCs) which collect and distribute rare disease biomaterials for research, using a procedure of high quality, may apply for membership. The applicants should agree with the principles defined in the network Charter and be willing to put their collections of samples (or part of them) on the webbased catalogue.

Membership section of the EBB website 2) Benefits of membership (from the EBB charter) Being involved in a highly visible and reputed European Network of biobanks dedicated to Rare Diseases; Displaying collections in the general EuroBioBank Network catalogue published on the EuroBioBank Network website; Being listed on the EuroBioBank Network website; Using the EuroBioBank name and logo, in accordance with the rules established by the General Assembly ; Accessing the EuroBioBank Network intranet; Having a privileged access to know-how and services provided by other Members; Working towards the harmonisation of biobanking practices; Mentoring for new biobanks that are in the set-up phase, to assist their alignment with high quality standards.
