International Geoscience Programme (IGCP) Project 596 Climate change and biodiversity patterns in the Mid-Paleozoic (Early Devonian to Early Carboniferous) IGCP 596 Closing Meeting Udine, Italy; 10-12 October 2016 1 st Circular Venue IGCP 596 had the goal to increase the record of biodiversity and to clarify links between specific biodiversity patterns and climate during the Mid-Paleozoic. Because 2016 is the last year of the project on extended term, we would like to bring together one more time all those colleagues, who were strongly involved and hard working on the achievement of the general project goals in the past five years. The very final meeting will take place in Udine (Italy) between 10-12 th October 2016. Organizing committee Luca Simonetto Museo Friulano di Storia Naturale (Italy) Thomas Suttner University of Graz, Institute for Earth Sciences (Austria) Erika Kido University of Graz, Institute for Earth Sciences (Austria) Carlo Corradini University di Cagliari (Italy) Peter Königshof Senckenberg Research Institute & Natural History Museum (Germany) Johnny Waters Appalachian State University (USA) Sarah Carmichael Appalachian State University (USA) 1

Meeting information Web (IGCP 596): http://www.senckenberg.de/root/index.php?page_id=14702 For any questions please contact with the main organizers. Contact persons: L. Simonetto (luca.simonetto @comune.udine.it) and T. Suttner (suttner.thomas@gmail.com). General Program 9. October (Sun): Arrival & Friendly Gathering 10. October (Mon): Report of accomplishment of IGCP 596 and of international and/or national projects linked with IGCP 596 11. October (Tue): Social day and joint dinner 12. October (Wed): IGCP 596 business meeting and future perspectives More details on the program will be provided within the second Circular. Deadline Registration: 31 st May 2016. Important: As there will be set a limit of 30 participants, we would like to ask you to register as soon as possible (a simple email to suttner.thomas@gmail.com will do). Registration Fee As there will not be any support from the UNESCO for this year, we try to keep the registration fee as low as possible. Basically we will request some money only for the joint dinner which can be paid on site at the registration desk. Presentation Only oral presentation will be accepted in the meeting. Please prepare your contribution on USB stick (PPT 2003). Because the meeting will conclude the project and its progress in the past five years, no talks including common topics, like the introduction to a new outcrop, or distribution patterns of a fossil group across an extinction event, etc, will be accepted. Rather we would like you to prepare presentations on sister or satellite projects of IGCP 596. Talks should include a summary on the scientific research, results, and some information on the funding source. Abstract Volume The volume shall include project reports about sister or satellite projects of which published output contributed to IGCP 596 or budget was used for attendance of related meetings. Following points shall be included within one contribution: Original project title, project leader(s), funding agency, duration, introduction on the scientific background of the project, research 2

results, output (published papers, conferences attended, public outreach), and references. If you intend to prepare illustrations, please stick to following formats: page-width 175 x 245 mm, column-width 86 x 245 mm (length of figure accords to the maximum length of one printed page - this does not need to be followed strictly, but the figure-length should be reasonable); lettering in figures: Font: Arial, 10, Bold (A, B, C, rather than 1, 2, 3 ), Figures should be submitted as tiff, LZW, 24 bit, 600 dpi. Only high-resolution figures will be accepted! Please do not send PDF files or figures that are incorporated in the contribution win.word-text! Title (Arial, 14, Bold) Authors (Arial, 10, Bold) - Example: Carlo Corradini 1 Affiliation (Arial, 9) Example: Dipartimento di Scienze Chimiche e Geologiche, Università di Cagliari, via Trentino 51, 09127 Cagliari, Italy; corradin@unica.it Running Text (Arial, 10) Headings in the running text (First order: Arial, 10, Bold; second order: Arial, 10, Bold Italics, third order: Arial, 10, underlined). Meeting Location and how to reach Udine Our meeting location will be a conference room in the new building of the Museo Friulano di Storia Naturale, Via Gradenico Sabbadini 32, Udine (map: point 1). The closest airports are those of Venice, Treviso (that is the base for many low-cost flight, as Ryanair) and Trieste (also here some Ryanair flights). From Venice and Treviso airports participants should reach the city railway stations and take a train to Udine (about 1.30-2.00 hours). From Trieste airport (named Ronchi dei Legionari ) there is a bus service to Udine (little less than one hour). Accommodation Udine has several hotels and B&B. Please book the hotel room by yourself (booking.com or airbnb.com commonly have best offers). Below listed hotels are quite close to the meeting location walking distance.
