What is FIG? Federation of national associations Only international body representing all surveying disciplines UN-recognised non-governmental organisation (NGO) Established in 1878 in Paris by 7 member associations Members Over 120 countries represented in 2016 more than 300,000 individuals 3

Member categories Member associations - national associations representing one or more of the disciplines of surveying Affiliates groups of surveyors or surveying organizations undertaking professional activities but not fulfilling the criteria for member associations Academic members organizations, institutions or agencies, which promote education or research in one or more of the disciplines of surveying Corporate members organizations, institutions or agencies, which provide commercial services related to the profession of surveying. Members Over 120 countries represented in 2016 more than 300,000 individuals Fiji Institute of Surveyors University of the South Pacific 4

Benefits of being a member Being part of a global community seeking to extend the usefulness of surveying for the betterment of society, environment and economy International recognition of the national profession. Access to the international surveying community for exchange of experiences and new developments Opportunities to take part and influence through working groups. Raise the awareness and prepare for the future on e.g mega trends (climate change, Mega cities etc) Sharing experiences and Knowledge exchange Building capacity Meeting points Advocate collaboration and cooperation FIG can facilitate and support; Knowledge exchange Building capacity Raise the awareness of the surveyor Meeting points Advocate collaboration and cooperation 5

Sustainable Development Goals 15

Geospatial information vital for the monitoring of most SDGs. Our data bases in combination is the key. FIG contributes with sharing experiences, knowledge, best practices etc. FIG can support, organise, facilitate and actively participative in; Discussion forums Meetings Seminars Workshops Technical Sessions We can also advocate co-operation and collaboration at FIG Working Weeks, FIG Regional Conferences and other related FIG symposiums or events. A very good example concerning the UN Resolution is the FIG/IAG/ICG Technical Seminar on Reference Frame in Practice. Been held in e.g. Manila, Singapore and Christchurch. In 2017 there will be one in Kobe, Japan. 16
