Announcing a New Field-trip Seminar (TarT-7) Date: 28 November 2018 Starts & Ends at: Al-Nawras Hotel, Dubai, UAE Instructor: Dr. Mohammad Warrak, PhD. Organised by: Target Exploration Consultants Page 1 of 5 Target Exploration Consultants Ltd. is a United Kingdom registered company no. 11605381

Why the UAE? United Arab Emirets has been exploring, discovering, developing and producing some of the most prolific giant oil fields in the Middle East, and can provide proximal analogues for giant oil fields explorers in other MENA countries in innovative exploration plays, field development methods and production profiles of regional Middle East Mesozoic reservoirs yet to be adequately explored in other MENA countries. This is the first comprehensive public Fieldtrip Seminar that introduces the exposed elements of petroleum systems of the UAE. Figure1. Location of Fieldtrip Area Fieldtrip Seminar: the Foreland of North Oman Mountains- a Window to the Petroleum Systems of UAE The geology of the Northern Oman Mountains is dominated by two tectonic events. The first, occurred during the Late Cretaceous and resulted in the obduction of a slice of oceanic crust and upper mantle (Semail ophiolite), together with ocean basin, Page 2 of 5 Target Exploration Consultants Ltd. is a United Kingdom registered company no. 11605381

slope sediments and volcanics (Hawasina, Sumeini and Haybi complexes), onto the Arabian continental margin. As a consequence of the loading of the continental margin, a foredeep (the Aruma foredeep) developed along the western flank of the obducted allochthon and was filled with Late Cretaceous Tertiary (Neoautochthonous) sediments. The second tectonic event culminated in the Middle-Late Tertiary and resulted in the deformation of the Neoautochthonous sediments and formed en-echelon periclinal folds in the foreland region of the Northern Oman Mountains. Most of these folds are buried under the desert sand except for some large ones, such as the Hafit and Faiyah structures, which can be recognized on satellite images. Itinerary: Meeting at 8:00 am on 22 November 2018 in the lobby of Al Nawras Hotel in Deira - Al Mamzar Area opposite NMC Hospital, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Bus leave at 8:30: to visit certain localities within the Upper Cretaceous Tertiary succession of the foreland region of Oman Mountains that are exposed at A. Faiyah, Hafit and B. Qarn Nazwa structures. The latter represents the westernmost exposure of these rocks. The areas to be visited (the Faiyah range, Qarn Nazwa) fall within the oil field Province IV, the Oman Thrust Belt, which includes a number of oil and gas fields and discoveries, such as Saja a, Moveyeid, Juwaiza, Kahaif, Khubai, Margham and Khusub. The aim of the trip, is to illustrate certain aspects of the geology of the three structures (Faiyah, Nazwa), that are crucial to the understanding of the geological evolution of this prospective region and help Petroleum Geologists and Reservoir Engineers in their task to interpret the subsurface data and construct realistic models for further exploration and development. Participants Receives: A. Fieldtrip guidebook with up to date references B. Certificate of Fieldtrip completion Page 3 of 5 Target Exploration Consultants Ltd. is a United Kingdom registered company no. 11605381

Course Logistics: Venue: Fieldtrip Starts and Enda at Al-Nawras Hotel, Dubai, UAE Date: 28 November 2018 Timing: Fieldtrip starts at 08:00 am and ends at 16:30 pm Language: English Format: Two Stops, 2 Refreshments and 1 Lunch breaks Ideal No.: 20 Participants Instructor: Dr. Mohammed Warrak, PhD. Geological Consultant based in the UK. He has a B.Sc. Honours in Geology from the University of Liverpool, M.Sc. and D.I.C. in Petroleum Geology from the Imperial College, University of London and Ph.D. degree in Structural Geology, from the Imperial College, University of London. His PhD degree involved studying an area of great structural complexity in the Western Alps of France. Dr. Warrak is a well-established researcher and teacher of Earth Sciences with detailed knowledge of the Geology of the UAE. He taught Geology at the UAE University for 16 years, Kuwait University for one year and the UK Open University for 9 years. The results of his research include scientific papers and six geological maps of some of the geologically critical regions of the Northern Oman Mountains. He was a team member and consultant to the British Geological Survey (UAE Project, 2002-2006) mapping the mountains of the Northern Emirates of the UAE and Al Ain area. He also carried out consultations to the Government of the UAE and oil companies in the UAE and abroad. Dr. Warrak was a resident consultant and Geological Studies Project Manager to the UAE Supreme Petroleum Council and ADNOC from 2011-2013, where he mapped some of the emergent salt domes of the UAE as well as islands and seafloor of western offshore Abu Dhabi.
